So what happens in the first 50,000 miles in a vehicle operation has nothing to do with reliability???

The price break between the big three, and Toyota is certainly not significant enough that it could not be eaten up by repair costs if these vehicles were as big of POS's as some people try to get people to believe. And another point to add, is that some of these companies have to factor in losses due to down time from a failure. They are certainly not going to run a fleet vehicle that has a potencial for costing them additional money in down time because of a failure.

Routine maintenance, cost of oil, cost of filter, brake wear, when they suggest the first *insert any maintenance under the sun*, plug wires, OEM tires, are you really asking what could go into cost of maintaining a car that doesn't have anything to do with reliability?

I've owned USDM cars my entire life, a *LOT* of them fall apart after 50k miles. This isn't an issue when you're buying and selling them before you hit that point where they start falling apart. This is also why they score incredibly low on consumer reliability reports, but beancounters have no issue buying them for fleet vehicles anyways.

That entire post makes absolutely no sense what so ever..

SFC, answer this for me. Do you have any experaince in performing maintinance, repair, the schedualing of such items, the direct cost sustained by any of them and there direct impact on "out of service" vehicles. Have you been a purchaser for a company running fleet vehicles, or been the individual responsible for schedual, and making payments on the repairs. Do you realy have much experiance at all on any side of the automotive repair market at all?? Or do you just take it upon yourself to tell everyone in any field how things work.

Maybe you should stick to telling the politicians how to do thier job....Course youve never been one of them either.......

Silly me, you must know how everything works better than those who are in direct contact with how it realy does work..

the only US made car i've owned and failed before 50k miles was a 98 camaro... And I don't think any contractors drive some of them either...

but ya know, come to think of it, that camaro never lost control of the steering wheel...

good point. better value for the money.

toyletas are simply overpriced. and with how fast they're gaining popularity and losing reliability, it won't take long until the whole thing flops... mark my words

Doubtful, that whole union thing that is killing the US automakers right now also appears to be directly relational to build quality. If your company (in any practical sense) cannot fire you, why would you do any more than the absolute minimum everyday?

the fact that your company is closing plants left and right thus not only you but a few tens of thousands other people might lose their jobs vs your company pays you like walmart... I dunno man, tough one.

Brand devotion? When have I made referance to being partial to any specific brand. Theres your lack of reading comprehension skills again. This post was about the Big 3, not a specific brand. In another post I went as far to even point out that Toyota probably built a better half ton.

If you dont want people to make assumptions, maybe you should be more carefull about how you post on the internet.

Ford Trucks> toyota trucks. I just had to get in. I drive an F-350 Powersroke, with 150K+ hard plowing and towing miles. Some front end parts are the only thing that has had to be replaced. The heavy plow takes its toll. The F-series have a great reputation, and great sales. I have no problem saying my loyalty. I choose to support an American Company. Lovers of toyota, knock yourselves out. I don't care.
