Do you think farmers income is not taxed? There is a difference between a typical 9-5 guy making an average salary compared to a farmer funneling hundreds of thousands (or more) back into the economy each year to net a small income. (that is mostly invested back into paying off land or operating loans) Comparing a typical employee (in regards to taxes) in this country to a farmer is absolutely absurd.

WTF are you talking about, my point was not one fraction of one red cent of your (or my) taxes are coming into my employer in the form of a subsidy, I unfortunately am subsidizing your employer and it's bullshit, make it on your own or fold, it’s a pretty simple concept.

I think farmers are great, we need them, but charge what you need to charge for your goods, the govermnet should not be spending tax dollars to make your product more affordable.

There have been plenty of government studies that have looked into the issue of farm subsidies and the repercussions that would result from pulling subsidies, I have seen figures from triple to five times the cost for your basic groceries. I was just at a conference 2 weeks ago that was directed toward the 2012 farm bill and where cuts are going to be made, the head of the RMA personally addressed these issues. Do you really think our government would spend billions per year on the farm bill if it wasn't necessary? Why do you think farmers are going broke every year, even when they are subsidized?

Do you realize ~78% of the farm bill is for food stamps and other cheap food programs for underprivileged people?

Do you really think they would basically eliminate all taxes for agricultural use if they didn't have to? When farmers have to spend hundreds of thousands or even millions per year to just put their crop in the ground I am pretty sure the government would take advantage of the taxes from those items if it was feasible.

What is your field of expertise? It clearly isn't farming or economics. You should read up on issues that you have no experience with before you make yourself look like a shill.

Pretty sure if my tax rate was cut it half I would get by just fine with $10 a loaf bread and $30 a gal milk, that’s pennies a day, the government takes tens and tens of thousands a year from my household, well over $100 a day when you count SS deductions that I’ll probably never see. If the government was stealing my money I’d have more to give to you the farmer for your valuable goods, instead it gets taken from me, wasted and wasted again while it travels thru the endless government system and eventual y 5% of it makes it to somewhere. There is a reason the government is the largest employer in almost every state, and it has nothing to do with being efficient.
And comparing us to other countries is a joke, we are blessed with great agricultural land and a much better land/water to population ratio then other shit hole counties, we export tons of food, at least the stuff that is subsidized.

My dad ran about $575,000 through the farm last year and made about $45,000 in actual income. He borrowed nearly all of it in March or so and paid it off at the end of the year.

What's the interest on $575,000?
What's the tax on $575,000 of goods? And NO, it isn't tax free or all deductible either. $80,000 alone went to rent land of which half the land owner used to buy a taxed pickup on top of his real estate taxes.

He says when it's all said and done, he pays out more money to the government then he's ever gotten and a hell of a lot more than most people that make $45K.

Even if it was welfare, he aint sit'n in no trailer, I dare anyone of you to keep up with the work he does every day. 65 and not looking to retire.
