neither swap is difficult it is a matter of opinion... in the end, all that matters is meeting expectations. from what I heard talking with joe just moments ago I think the 5.8 swap is the way to go... it will be cheaper and as long as he doesn't over do the necessitys it will be easier. all joe wants is more bottom end grunt to pull a trailer with out kicking it down all the time... since the 5.0 ho is designed with a higher rpm power band compared to a 5.8 where the power band is right off idle I think the 5.8 will fit him better...

off the top of my head I want to say it has 15 maybe 20 less hp and about 35 lbft more torq... but it not how much entirely but where in the band...
the explorer 5.0 starts making power at about 26-2900 rpms and max's at about 5-5500 rpms. not much good when a stock aod shifts at 4800...

a stock 5.8 makes power from 1800 to 4500 and sees 300 ftlbs of torq at about 2200

that sounds a little conservative but about right... I think(thought) there where more like 230/340 but I have been proven wrong before...

So being that we're all up on our Mustang tech, an E7 head, factory HO intake 5.0 does 225/300. So a GT40 headed and intake Explorer motor should make at least that.

So you're going through all of that extra work for a supposed 30 ft/lb, if that? Sounds like a hell of an endevour for not much extra gain.

And I figured I'd look up factory power ratings.

1992 5.8 210 hp 315 lb·ft

1993 5.8 200 hp 310 lb·ft

1993-95 Lightning 240 hp 340 ft·lb

1994-96 5.8 210 hp 325 lb·ft
