I'm looking a buying a new block for my car, I'm just wondering whats the difference between the dart 302 Sportsman and the Ford Racing boss 302 other than the boss is a couple hunderd less.

I know Macs Stang just got the Boss block and I am pretty sure he did his homework before buying. I am sure he will see this thread and respond but you could probably PM him if you want.

I think the darts are beefier and a little heavier but require more machining.

The darts also cost a little more.

actually it is the other way around, the BOSS requires a bit more machining, and with that said the cost about evens out if you do some shopping.

I believe it comes as just a cast. Then you have it machined to your setup.

Someone on the internet told me that the boss block has shorter cylinders than normal 302 blocks, so that a 347 stroker would be a problem. It seemed impossible to me that Ford would mess up like that. Has anyone around here seen the Boss block? Are the cylinders short?

The new Dynacorn 67/68 fastback that is making the show circuit features a boss block that is 347 CID.

That is hundreds upon hundreds of dollars worth of work at a good machine shop.

I wouldn't consider buying a boss over a dart and i'd do the full set of billet 4 bolt caps and run a full pan. All if I had more than a pot to piss in of course. but then again If I built an aftermarket blocked motor it would never be a SBF.

no shit? You think I have never had any machining done? All I am saying is I would do it all no matter what block I bought. Who gives a fuck. When you are spending money like that on an engine why spare anything and why take a chance?

exactly why only going a max of 3.4 inch stroke is silly. At least do a tall deck.

If I was spending that kind of dough it would be 600 cubic inches.

I am an idiot for not building a BBC. I could have done a 540 cube 700+HP for the same $$$ I got into my 500 HP 347.

HAHAHAH You guys crack me up, first if I was spending the money why bother with either of these blocks, go to a "IRON EAGLE" or "MAN OF WAR" for $300 more. And a 9.5 deck. And untill you have done it dont claim to know what you THINK you could build for a certain $$$$. And 2 beer will back me up on this. Nothing is cheap if done correctly.

back on Topic, for the Money I would pay $300 more and get the DART.
