Ok, so finally got this lunk of crap outta my laser.
Got it all torn down, washed up most of the stuff pretty good. Head came back OK no cracks or bad valves and it got a cleaning. On to the block.
Now, should i get it hot tanked? If i do, do i absolutely have to remove the frost plugs? Something i'd like to avoid not too worried about plugged up water jackets.
On the the balancer shafts, I'm being told that i can install an oilpump plug and a new pump shaft and just get rid of them. Everyone says the motor will vibrate a little more but it's well worth doing it and it's 100% reliable. Which is what im all about, i dont want to worry about timing the fuckers either!!!
I'm not planning on balancing the motor i just wanna slap this thing together and drive it until the wheels fall off. So if i have to have the thing balanced im just going to put the shafts back in. If i dont i'll run it without the shafts. Just got the thing because it was free and had a new transmission, axles, tires and exhaust put on it by my aunt.
Recomendations? Balancer shafts or no? Hot tank yes or no? and worry about the frost plugs? can i leave them in before sending them to the shop?
your insights are very helpfull to me right now!! never done this before doesnt look too challenging ofcourse i havent gotten started on putting it back together!!
Im probably going to have 1001 more questions, going to either take the motor to wagamen bro's tomorrow for the hot tanking or just clean up the surfaces and get started.
