    underdrive pulley's

I bought some MAC underdrive pulleys for my 5.0 and was wondering why the pulley off the crank was smooth. The one on my car right now has grooves in it that match the grooves of the belt. Is this normal? I don't want to throw my belt or something? I know that it is larger in diameter, so it will be turning less and I think that it will be closer to the water pump, but .... am i just worried about nothing?

my water pump pulley is completely smooth as well....I wouldnt worry about it if I were you...put em on...have someone start it, and watch the belt to see if it wanders, if it starts to wander have the person kill it. I wouldnt worry bout it much tho.

Sounds like you are confusing the crank and the water pump pulley. Whe water pump pulley is the smooth one. Should be a piece of cake to do except the alternater which requires an impact gun. Best money I ever spent was on my pulleys. Have fun.

      I disagree.

I can explain, but I dont like typing. lets just say drive without them for a day after having them on and you will feel pretty naked.

the alt and water pump just torque to spec. the crank ones just tighten as hard as you can because they probably supplied you with Hex bolts for that, actually I would tighten all of the pretty tight.

Crankshaft Pulley-to-Vibration Damper Blots 20-28 ft. lbs.
Water Pump Pulley-to-Hub 15-21 ft. lbs.

I found those on the net, but i would go tighter than that, dont forget loctite.

be careful,if you overtighten the bolts you will stretch them, thus weakening them. find the manual and torque to specs and use loctite.you can find this info at the public library

If pulleys are added to mustangs, ESPECIALLY Cobras, they inherently become unbeatable. Its true...

it's kinda like glue for a bolt. it will help it to not come loose
