    Spark Blowout?

    I was taking her out about an hour ago and decided to just let the old bitch have it, I stomped her down and in no time I was making 8psi at 4500 and then it started to breakup. I watched the AFRs dance all over in the 11s while it was breaking up so I am taking a guess that I have reached the limit of my current ignition system.

    Timing: 28 deg at 0psi with -1/lb retard up to 10#s (18deg at 10psi,20deg at 8psi)
    Ignition: TFI with MSD coil
    Wires: Accel 8mm SuperStock
    Plugs: Autolight copper 3923s @ .040
    Fuel: 89oxy (pretty common around here, tuned for that)
    Target AFR in this region: 11.5:1-12:1, 12:1 or just under is commonly seen

    I will be converting to sequential LS2 coils soon but I have a few other things to do yet.

    Does the stock system have enough power to handle 10psi without a MSD box? I'm thinking about letting it cool down and regapping to .030.

    Gap the plugs down to .028" and report back...

    The stock system should be able to handle the power you are making and the boost.

      Yeah the plug gap sounds a little high.

      Also, what valvesprings are you using? Obviously a turbo engine needs a lot more valvespring pressure, especially on the exhaust side.

            Plug gap is fine, in fact, I run .054 on my 20 lb boost drag car I am gonna have done in a few months.

              I dont know the exact numbers but they should be more than up to the task, These are Budde's old Holley Systemax heads that he ran on the 351 with an Fcam.

                      Well, they are all gapped to .028 now, it is getting a little too late for a pull tonight so Ill get to it in the AM. I did find my infrequent random cruise miss, #4 (the hardest to get to on the pass rear) was at .045 and all sooted up, no quite fouled but enough to be annoying.

                        Weren't the guides completely fucked on those heads? I remember Steve saying those heads were junk and needed all new guides and John was going through oil like crazy with em. I would get the oil consumption under control before you run into problems.

                          There is nothing wrong with these heads, Johns 351 block had 4 cylinders with bad rings, I helped him re-ring it. These heads burn no oil, however due to the unique valve geometry they will need refreshing eventually.

                          Here is an example of what it looks like when it would break up. You can see that she is running great and pulling hard when it just hits a wall.
