fuel/carb problem

This is on my 65 mustang, has a holley carb. Over the winter i put a ele fuel pump in and running a regulator set at about 5.5 to 6 psi right now. The fuel pump is wired into a key on so the fuel pump shuts off when the key is turned off. The problem i have is when i run the car then shut it off for a few minutes the car has to crank for a wile before it fires as if the carb is flooding the engine when i turn it off. I thought the floats were set to high but i adjusted them to below the check hole. I rebuilt the carb, so it is a possibility i screwed something up. The car runs great just has the problem that when it been running then i shut it down and try to restart it. Anyone have any ideas?

Did you have to do a lot of messing with your idle flow screws? Is the regulator return or returnless?

sounds like it mite just be a idle air bleed prob if its pluged it will put a lot more gas thru at idel ( like you turned the idle screw out 3 full turns )

do you mean the idle set screws on the metering block. If those then yes i set them with a vac gauge. Its a holley returnless regulator.

Are those what screw into the metering block? Sorry not all that great with carbs.

ya it the ones on the blocks and check your powervalve gasket something vary sim happen to me and that was the prob

just looked it up alright i see what they are whats the best way about going to clear them out do i have to tear the carb apart and and blow them out or am i able to unscrew them and clean them?

just blow them out but the more i think about it the more i think its your powervalve

replaced it with the carb kit.

its a really weird problem i dont see any fuel leaking out of the carb when the car is shut off. But for some reason when i go to restart it it has to crank for about 5 seconds then fires right up and runs fine.

the IAB is a small hole that gos into a bigger one the gos down to the lil hole under the butterflys the most that can get in is dust and it mite b able to gum up but not likely in gas

if im thinking right the power valve has 2 holes that go into the main power part of your carb but ties into the idel curcet so if the powervalve is bad what is rare unless you have one hell of a backfire but the gasket gos bad sometimes and what will happen is after you turn off the car the gas will drane out off the small hole under yor two back butterflys it should just be the back buterflys unless u have a powervalve in the frount and u shoudnt

Look down inside your carb when you shut it off. Watch for it to get wet inside.

ill give it another look tomorrow but i have done that and havent noticed anything. At least not on top of the carb blades. Have yet to open them and look down inside. Any ideas what would be doing it if it was leaking gas into it? Im sure thats what is happening but dont really see any fuel pooling.

u will have to look under the back buterflys.......but carbs r simple the metering blocks are simple to as long as you understand how they work and about 90% dont but what you have as a prob is vary simple
