How much work to swap auto for manual in fox?

That purty red 90 vert in the for sale section has me thinking, how much work is it to swap an auto to manual(and vice versa)?

Basically, I was thinking that I would pull my engine and tranny(manual) from my current car, and drop it in that one and vice versa. I know the pedals would need to be swapped, how difficult is that?

Any electronics besides the computer? For the hole for the shifter, does the plate that snaps into place for the auto just get replaced by the shift boot from my car?

Just seeing how much work it would be. I've done a similar swap, but both cars were manuals.

Oh, and in b4, "Don't buy it and modify it, keep it stock" statements.

      I disagree.

Jon did it to the cougar. It seemed to go pretty smoothly, the only thing he had to do that was a pita was cut a hole in the floor for the shifter cuz the coug was column shift.

Pedal swap requires the column to be dropped down, but that isn't a big deal. I took the front seat out of my car when I did mine for more room. The pedal swap can be a little shitty to do just because it's in a tight space, but it is definitly something that can be handled by an average Joe mechanic.

The shifter hole subject is the part that is the most labor intensive. The auto cars have a hold cut in the tunnel for the shifter and plate to sit in. The manual cars have a hump welded around the shifter opening for the lower boot to bolt to, because if the hump was not there then the boot couldn't clear the lower part of the shifter. The auto cars also need a little bit of the opening trimmed to get the T5 to fit. So if you're swapping both cars, you would drill the spot welds on the manual hump, then spot weld it in the auto car.

It's not that hard of a swap, but it can be slightly meticulous if you want to do it "factory".

what I tryed to say is, im takeing the 5 speed out of my car. $500 for all of it trans, pedals, quadrant, cable, clutch, flywheel, shifter, and boot. save yourself the time of doing a complete swap from both cars and just make the other car a stick.

I did my car and my buddies... takes a day, both times. The pedals are the hardest part, I also took the seat out and dropped the column but the dash stays in. It's one of those things you fight with and seems impossible then just kinda magically falls into place. Everything else is easy, I just trim the front edge of the shifter opening a hair and put the thing together, the lower boot will still seal to the floor but I had to slam a couple of new screws in the front as I trimmed the tabs from the tunnel. On my car the speedo cable came through the clutch cable hole in the firewall, in my buddies it didn't... weird and no big deal but take a look and see where yours is so you can reroute if necessary while the columns down.

On auto cars the speedo cable goes through the clutch cable hole in the firewall. On five speed cars they are routed through the hole next to the clutch cable hole.

a9p advances the timing faster iirc, give the auto a lil more off the line. and as notch stated just drop the column.

Well, in my case, that wont matter since the little wheezy 5.0 in my car is nowhere near stock and tuned with a Tweecer.

Dropping the column sound so much easier than replacing a heater core.

I may have to look into this a little further. That car is just what I'm looking for: Clean LX vert.
