If you end up able to come with us, you're going to need a light. You may be able to rent one at wherever you are renting your bike from. However, it may make more sense to just buy one if you have to pay to rent one (because let's face it, you're probably getting into this hobby). Most of us prefer the Niterider lights, which can be found at most local bike shops. You will want one that comes with a helmet mount. Most of us run two lights (helmet & bar), but when running one light, the helmet is the best place for it.Originally posted by pubestripe View PostI may be in. Laying in bed with this back shit all night is getting old. I have a few hookups on free rentals as soon as im physically able to ride.

Thinking about sprucing up the trek a little bit.
What do people think of these?
I figure they will be better than the Michelin Mud Country's, but at $35 is there something out there better in 26 inch? I dont want to dump a ton of money into a bike that will most likely be retired after spring/summer.

I think to spruce up the Trek, you should first replace the frame with a Canfield Nimble 9. Then replace the crankset with a Sram XX1 along with XX1 drivetrain. Jump on the popular mtbr bandwagon and get a Chinese carbon wheelset, and then stick the 29er version of those tires on there. aaaaand there, you're done sprucing up the Trek.Originally posted by StangerJon View PostThinking about sprucing up the trek a little bit.

I know nothing about these tires, but it looks like a decent deal: http://www.pricepoint.com/detail/132...II-XC-Tire.htm
Otherwise, I'm really happy with my XKings... http://www.universalcycles.com/shopp...5&category=781
Don't put a lot (any?) money into that Trek. You're probably going to upgrade eventually, and the temptation to do so will grow strong when spring comes.Originally posted by NickThe choice is easy.

"Bontrager combined their years of tire engineering and off-road racing experience and came up with one of their fastest tires ever: the XR1. Made for fast courses on dry hardpack, the XR1 is super light, rolls fast and gives you predictable cornering and braking. Plus, this Team Issue version boasts a supple 120 TPI casing that gives you a better trail feel for enhanced traction."Originally posted by StangerJon View PostThinking about sprucing up the trek a little bit.

I would hate them. In fact, I think I had tires like that a couple years ago and I gave them to someone because I HATED them. Wayyyyy too slick for my taste. I like them grip-tastic! I don't like the rear end slipping out and I usually "crawl" over rocks and logs rather than just bomb over.
Just my preference.
