    1. You base that statistic on what again?

    2. Are you saying Ford wouldn't take a 3% sales increase for offering a trim level that didn't require any R&D?

Do you have any numbers to support how many people aren't buying the GT500 because Ford doesn't offer a stripper model?

Again, the stripper model idea isn't only about the GT500. It also applies to the GT, and for that, you can count a few just in this thread. Let me ask you this, do you think the people buying the already sold out Cobra Jets would have considered a normal GT500 instead?

You can also ask the crowd at the track if they'd like a cheaper, lighter, car with a lot of shit already taken off it.

No, I don't have numbers on this, but neither does the crowd saying it won't sell. What I'm saying is, small or big, there is a market for it, that currently no manufacturer is considering, and all of them seem to be moving away from.

I think they're all moving away from the stripper models because they can maximize their profits by offering $X,XXX worth of options that only cost them a fraction to make. Some of the manufacturers are probably naive enough that they think people will buy their cars regardless "omgthelatestmustangIgottahaveit!!!".

Sadly if Ford ever does come out with a stripper model they'll probably take $5k worth of options out of it, slap a 'R' at the end of the name or call it a Shelby whatever, make it a limited edition and overprice the hell out of it.

            Yep. Fucking bean counters...

              1. My own level headed, practical thinking.

              2. I'm not saying that, as those percents were pulled out of my ass. Again I'm just thinking logically about this. The demand for such a vehicle that ALL 3of you seem to want, isn't happening for a reason. If Ford thought the market was such a vehicle was profitable, I am sure they would take advantage of it.

              3. Ever here of a Mustang GTS? I think they made it in 95 or something. That seemed to sell like hot cakes. Not.

              4. I like numbered lists.

                1. Ah, ok, I forgot everyone on TCS is an expert in some domain.

                2. So by that reasoning, everything Ford does is for a reason and their market research is always spot on? You're giving too much credit to the idiots who brought over the Fiesta and european Focus, and axed the 2 door hatch for a second version of a 4 door...

                3. Yes, I have heard of it. Ever read the fact they made/sold more of them than cobras that year?

                4.

                  1. I never claimed to be an expert. But some rational thinking can go along way.

                  2. Please continue to make up wild stories about the very simple things I post as nothing more than my opinion on the matter. I can do that too, ready?..."so by your reasoning, you would rather live in Europe and continue to fight the good fight to get a stripped down version of a car that will never be?" Btw where are all of your research statistics on what the people in the US really want? You seem to be reading off your make believe stat sheet. You're opinion is biased because you want teh stripped down car. I don't care if they make it either way. I'm just pointing out what I see as the obvious reality of the situation.

                  3. No I haven't. Although I'm willing to bet the price difference was substancial enough to scare away even the elite svt crowd.

                  4. We all know you and some others want a stripped down, performance based car. But it's not going to happen. So why bitch about it constantly? Just get over it, and move on.

                    3. GTS was cheaper than the GT even...

                    4. Going out on a limb here, but maybe if the fans of a product talked about what they want, maybe that awesome market research team Ford has may actually hear it? Just a thought. Or maybe, you're right, we should never talk about what we'd want in a product, and just take what's given to us by the man. They know what's better for us.

                      3. Now way?!?!? Of course it was! It was a bare bones car!

                      4. Just because the bare bones car you desire isn't sitting at the dealer waiting for you to purchase doesn't mean they have never heard of, or considered offering a stripped down version of a car. Just because you and the message board junkies have made it known that you might purchase a car if it was offered, means little to a huge business trying to sell mass amounts of cars to the masses.

Did anyone say such a stripped down model would replace the V6 in terms of sales? No. And it doesn't have to be just the GT500. The GT could lose a few pounds too. Take all that shit off, sell the GT for 22-23k, and it'll be a helluva bargain. I bet you the college kid wanting a cool car is definitely gonna skip the V6 with all of the amenities over a stripper GT. Your 16 yr old daddy's girl getting a car for graduation, the marketbase for the v6 however, won't.
It is called lean manufacturing. It won't happen, especially in this economy. If the OEMs were still heavily involved in sanctioned racing you would have a prayer, but not until that happens again. (if ever)

So in the conclusion, your whole point is that without doing any research, or finding any statistics (that might just prove you wrong), you just know that a certain market is insignificant, all due to your superior "common sense". And because of that, we should quit voicing our opinion. Awesome.

This board is running thin on elitists now that SFC isn't posting as much. Glad to see people are stepping up to the plate.

You really think it makes financial sense to engineer, design, test, produce, and change the factories so they can sell a few extra models at a lower price point to satisfy a niche market?

                            Makes sense!

Engineer what, not installing parts on a trim level? Design what? a set of seats that don't weigh 100 lbs each? And test what? A piece of plastic that goes in place of the stereo?

I'm not saying they should sell it at a price point they'd lose money on; but don't tell me removing a few dozen parts from a car would make it more expensive.

Not to mention, this is the Mustang we're talking about. Remember how they have 28 different special editions already, where designing, testing, producing and changing factories to satisfy a niche market apparently isn't a problem?

Why do you continue to try and put your own twist on everything I say? Would you rather I didn't use common sense? Every arguement you've made could also be made for something as wild as an underwater car.

And shame on you. Don't label me. Don't compare me to SFC. Your rebuttals are turning into childish remarks that aren't even relivant to the converstation. Grow up.

Yes, voice your opinion on what you would like Ford to produce. Yell it from the roof tops! After all, that is the very thing that does instigate change. But don't be so blind to see that what you want is not available, for a justified reason. Or else it would be.
