Ya gotta admit, in many ways this is what the Fox was during the 80s. Lightweight, fast enough, spartan and affordable. It worked, so maybe the audience is still there.

Of course, with safety regulations these days, airbags alone probably kill the whole "lightweight" thing.
Airbags and safety overall... some of those bumper supports and other stuff is ridiculously heavy.

What bugs me, they already have the recipe... remember the cobra R's? Gimme a GT like that, no radio, no ac, no back seat, no spare, replace the lazy-boy power seats with some nice recaros/corbeaus, and in addition, yank out the sound deadening, and I'll be the first one in line... THAT would be a package worthy of the "Track pack" moniker. Not to mention it would probably help with their EPA/CAFE ratings a bit

It probably would cost more to develop a new door panel for manual crank windows than they would make off of it, so I'm not too crazy about designing new parts.

I woke up at 6am to go shoveling and move my car. Then I shoveled again just an hour ago. Then put the missing bolts in my hood and fenders, filled my transmission fluid to full and made a little lunch.

Oh and made a list of shops I want to apply at.

Now to redo my resume and add a few things.

Wouldn't it be nice if the manufacturer offered a lightweight option that got rid of things like sound deadening materials, AC, elec. windows/locks, some of the airbags, ground effects, etc.? I love a comfortable ride, but I have a DD for that and would like the option of buying a no-nonsense performance car to tear up town in on the weekends for $25k or less.

I'd love to go back to bare bones muscle cars. The greats of the 60's and 1970 (not much muscle after '70 with a few exceptions like the GN) didn't have many options. The Chevelles, Camaros, Mustangs, Chevy II's, GTOs, Cudas, Challengers, Chargers -- they didn't try to pimp out the interiors like a Caddy or a Benz. That wasn't the point. The point was packing the most power in the lightest cars. But, nowadays, the manufacturers are building luxury-muscle. They're styling is nice, but I'd say it was done with a target market of the middle-aged guys who saw the originals rolling down the road in the day. They're powerful, plush and fat. Designed to envoke nostalgia, but plush enough that the target market can leave their hemoroid donuts and preparation h at home. Though, they may still feel a little discomfort in that region after they have to borrow from their retirement to get that nostalgic ride.

Who knows, keeping the muscle in price ranges that typically are only suitable for more mature buyers may be their way of keeping little Johnny-16-year-old from running out and buying his own death sentence with his birthday money and Taco Bell wages.
You hit it right on the nose.

BTW - Love your signature pic :-)

This is all I ask. I'm trying to be reasonable on the whole thing. I'm not saying they should offer a tin can, but at least give us a few more "deletes" and options so that we can make the new car more fox oriented. I bet there would be a few people who would check off a credit box to get rid of the power seats in favor of manual seats if they could use that money elsewhere, like a 4:10 gearing option or something similar.
