laws should be made such that they do not infringe on the freedoms of others. speeding endangers others, I agree with that. Wearing my seat belt only affects me - you can argue the insurance angle all you want, that's not what was on legislators' minds when they voted on this - I don't need government to protect me from myself. Let the stupid people die.

Good point but I wonder what the over all costs would be if everything was included including medical costs.Originally posted by OrangeCrush 86 View PostThe problem with that is it would cost the state money to set up a program for car control etc., where as handing out ass loads of tickets generates "revenue".
It's always been ironic for me that they say they want to reduce accidents, but do very little if anything that would really make a difference. I would think that wet weather handling, stopping distances, avoidance, recovery of control etc. would be more important than being able to parallel park.
Some of it is out right stupidity.
I don't know how many times I've seen people sit ten feet behind a semi at 15mph trying to merge with traffic going 70.Last edited by Scorpner; 05-19-2009, 09:58 AM.

Interesting point. You should explain this to Fosters in a bit more depth. You know, how wearing a seatbelt HELPS in recovery of control so you do not do harm or more harm to others.Originally posted by Scorpner View PostGood point but I wonder what the over all costs would be if everything was included including medical costs.

No its to PROTECT MY HARD EARNED DOLLAR from you stupid fucks who refuse to wear a seatbelt.Originally posted by OrangeCrush 86 View PostIf you want to let insurance companies decide the laws it's your right to do that, along with trading freedom to save a few dollars (or so you say).
In my opinion government is a primary culprit for outrageous medical expenses.
Just like I'm all for government stepping in and regulating the food industry to KEEP YOU UNHEALTHY FAT FUCKS FROM DRIVING UP MY HEALTHCARE COSTS.
I'm not at all fat, I excercise daily, I eat healthy as hell...Why the fuck should I be paying for Fatty Patty McFatFat's multiple heart attacks and quadruple bypass?

Whoa, there big fella.....
You are all missing the point here:
FOLLOW THE MONEY
There was federal dollars on the table here, so if it passed Minnesota got federal monies. Nobody cares about your safety (unless it will get them re-elected), or insurance or the cost of hospitalization its just good to look like you care.
Just federal dollars here boys.

In your 90 years of accumulated wisdom, the best point you can make for a law clearly aimed at gathering revenue, is that seat belt helps you regain control of the vehicle? Wtf is next, arguing how many lugs you need on an econo shitbox to be safe?Originally posted by Scotty07 View PostInteresting point. You should explain this to Fosters in a bit more depth. Nobody is paying for anybody's stupidity. That's a stupid assumption.Originally posted by GoldenPlump View PostFor once I agree with this guy.
Statistics on seat belt use.
This is funny, TCS is very very republican yet it seems that a lot of you are all about making everyone else pay for your stupidity. That is a very LIBERAL way of thinking isn't it?
Yes it SHOULD BE your right to drive around without a seatbelt, but your insurance company should not have to pay for your injuries if it was determined that you were not wearing your belt. Don't wanna wear a belt? Fine...Have fun paying off those medical bills for the next 30 years.
And it is all presuming that wearing seat belts reduces medical costs. One could manipulate the statistics to show that people die when they don't wear one and are saved expensively when they do.
Again, there is no unbiased study that shows wearing seat belts actually reduces medical costs over a person's lifetime. None. Because that doesn't exist.
I was privy to MnDOT stats when the motorcycles helmet laws went back and forth. "It's gonna save money passing helmet laws", they said. Well, the number of fatalities stayed the same, people just died of neck trauma instead of head trauma. Didn't save a red cent.
As stated earlier, dying is cheap, living is expensive. Seat belts increase your chance for living. Pretty fucking simple, isn't it?
Personally, I would prefer to live, so I usually wear them. But my CHOICE has nothing to do with medical costs. It has to do with wanting to live.
The people that are telling you have much passing this law will save are the same people that told you traffic fatalities would spike if we eliminated the 55mph speed limit.

Wish it were possible to hold politicians responsible for these claims... when they claim something will lower costs - we get a reduction in taxes according to how much they claim shit will cut costs. If it truely does, then they've done their duty as an elected official in serving the people. If it doesn't, take that loss out of their pay. In plenty of places, if a cashier screws up something, it comes out of their pay. If a politician screws something up, it comes out of our pay...
