Hey how's your brother doing these days? Is he still in? Over there right now?Originally posted by LX Sport View PostA+ thread. Cool. What do you think your chances of getting into the school will be? Are there limited slots right now or anything like that?Originally posted by StangerJon View PostI find out next week if I will be learning how to jump out of air planes in august.

pretty limited since I am NG. But I was talking to my team leader about it a while ago and after our latest pt test she told me she was going to put in a recommendation for me to go with our commander.Originally posted by Matt87GTA View PostCool. I was told I would probly get in sometime before we ship out. But aug. would be the earliest I'd get in.

Look, it's been explained to you about 150 times. but I will try again because this might be our lucky day.
Time and time again people have thanked you for serving, respect what you did (even thought it may have been programming computers in Qatar, as you have shared very little details), and supported your efforts, yet if they dare differ with you about anything related to the war, you come out with the condescending attitude that they don't know what they are talking about, even if you have no direct experience related to it.
It's OK to not be in favor of this war, and your service doesn't make it right or wrong, or qualify you for a better opinion on the philosophical value of this conflict.
It's OK to have issues with how GITMO was run, and you didn't serve there, yet you act is if your opinion is more valid than anybody elses.
People have opinions about the things at the 30,000 foot level, but you being on the ground does not change why we are at war, who we are at war with, and what value that war means to America. It's OK for people to have opinions on that just like you.
And that's the point. There are things about the war, lots of em, as a matter of fact, that you have no more direct experience than the people you talk down to here. And that is the core issue with the people who seem to have a problem with you.
You can choose to be pissed about it, and get into pissing matched with whomever doesn't swing from your nuts, or you can choose to accept that people will always have different opinions, and if you have direct experience on something, you can share it peacefully instead of ramming it down there throat in an insulting way.
Your call soldier. At this point, whatever problems you have are all your doing.

Apparently you missed the part of my long question where I said logistics and not directly killing/fighting with opposing forces. Does every major strategic military decision get made by someone who is running in and shooting with infantry units? I'm under the impression that certain people may be better at planning and analyzing than pulling a trigger. This isn't to degrade people who do the actual work but I'd imagine that not every great strategic mind was a front line fighter.Originally posted by Matt87GTA View PostYour friend knows what he read in a book or what was told to him by people that were there. He doesn't know a damn thing about what it was like to be there and fight in the war. And the audacity in believing that everything that happens in war is reported accurately enough to be in a position to actually know more as a civilian viewing said reports comfortably at home than the soldier on the ground experiencing the war first hand, is not only grand in stature, but disgusting to we who have been there.
But you guys support the troops right?
Just fuck off and leave us alone.

Crazy as ever. He just got back state side like 2 months ago. He re-enlisted about 1-1/2 years ago for another 5 years IIRC. Next deployment for him is scheduled for sometime in 2009. Which would make it his 5th tour.Originally posted by Matt87GTA View PostHey how's your brother doing these days? Is he still in? Over there right now?

The war has about 10% approval rating and the troops are supported and applauded 100% wherever they go. Try serving in a time where it wasn't volunteer, (that's right, you volunteered), and try getting spit on when you come home.
Crybaby drama queen.
Are you saying YOU had to be Forced to serve your country? are you proud of that? People that volunteer, have more courage then those forced to serve IMO. To look at the situation and Still have the balls to step up. That is damn Heroic.
