03's and 04's alike.
We don't have crossover tubes that connect the heads in the rear. Therefore pistons 7 and 8 get lack of cooling during high speed runs.
I have seen more than 5 posts on SVTperformance of guys doing high speed runs, then right after they hear the piston knocking. The teflon coating gets burned off and the piston is ruined.

No the '04's have had that adressed. And if you can't go wfo then why..nevermind.
No they haven't. The '03/04 engines are identical except for some slight cylinder head revisions. There still is no crossover on the rear of the heads. However, that mod isn't going to prevent damage from high speed runs. The pistons are too tight in the bore, there is no fix for that except to hone the cylinders.

Wow, thats my first time hearing that.
If you hone the cylinders, you might as well put in the best piston money can buy. I really am not trying to have to dig inside the motor yet.
Looks like a good idea. I asked the tuning guy where I purchased my tuning software specifically about the heating of cylinders 7 and 8. He told me I had an '04 and didn't have to worry. I guess he didn't know or didn't care to tell me the whole story.
I was informed that those slight revisions in the cylinders included a coolant passage change.
This would be true, but it was only to fix the issue with the tick as the valve guides were failing from too much heat from lack of coolant flow. There is still a problem at the back of the cylinder head on the passenger side since there is no coolant crossover. However, this coolant crossover isn't the fix that everyone thinks it is, but it helps.
