Gasoline is being traded based on the futures market, not the actual supply and demand. I feel sorry for some of these investors, because the market will come crashing down. Gas prices will not stay high forever.


And as far as our president not doing enough, I guess I don't see what he could be doing more of, besides getting rid of capatilism and instituting socialism/communism (some would be happy about this). Oh wait, this is president Bush we are talking about. The disaster is all his fault, he caused the hurricane (global warming!), and is now communicating with the looters to continue as he kills baby kittens in the oval office.

Regulating a necessary product used by the people isn't socialism or communism. I know, let's "open the market" for our drinking water and sewage (don't give me the "I live in the country, I have my own" shit either because you and I both know that would never work in a metropolitan area). Let me know what you think when you have to pay 6$ for a glass of water. I mean, not allowing a free market for our drinking water would be communism! Claiming that putting a leash on a monopoly is communism is BS. There is no competition in the gas market, which is why it's not capitalism. When there's three companies and they've all buddy buddied not to compete on prices it's no longer capitalism, cmon mister accountant, you of all people should know this.

"I'm" carpooling, but that doesn't help anything, because "HE" and "they" being the president, congress, senate, aren't doing anything to regulate the gas companies. This is just the tip of the iceberg... Katrina was just an excuse and a reason to jack things up even more. They claim gas shortages in Atlanta... so they can charge 5.75+/gallon for gas. Yet there was the exact same thing in AZ last summer on two different occasions and gas prices didn't go up a dime. The gouging is criminal, and nothing is being done about it, end of story. Raising prices isn't lowering consumption, and it won't, because the people who use the most gas can't just stop. And the people who don't won't have a siginificant impact. Not to mention, before Katrina, prices were going up 10-15c a week anyways. Again, refer to california and their energy "crisis". Amazing that things weren't any better with deruglation and jacked up prices. The exact same is true with our current gasoline situation.

Seriously, can you tell me where you purchased the study guide and reference books on "Paranoia", "Conspiracy Theory", "Blame others first", "Socialism: Its now for everyone", and "Why I hate people who take care of their own situations?" Regulation solves NOTHING. Markets WILL self correct. What is gouging? If we are in a supply/demand market, how is charging a rate that people are willing to pay called gouging? I did not say I liked it, but it is NOT GOUGING. It's called MARKET FORCES. If they did not want to pay it, they could choose to find another form of transportation. Hey, it does not mean that it will be as convenient or useful.
