    What a joke...

"I think there ought to be zero tolerance of people breaking the law during an emergency such as this, whether it be looting, or price-gouging at the gasoline pump or taking advantage of charitable giving, or insurance fraud," Bush said in an interview on ABC's "Good Morning America."

It almost sounds good until you read...

"I would hope Americans conserve if given a choice," he said.

So basically they aren't going to do shit.

still dont really unserstand why we (mn) have to take it in the ass for gas. I mean the whole pipe line thing doesnt really affect us. Since that gas goes to just Atlanta and shit like that or thats my understanding... From the Pump Gas thread by v869TR6

So tell us, who are "they" and what are "they" to do? With no power, lights, water, sewage, ability to patrol, no transportation, no fuel...what are the options?

President Bush suggested that the nation conserve. He can't FORCE conservation at this time. His statements reflect the core values of the overwhelming majority of this country. His messages are: show your neighbors respect, help your neighbors in times of need. He states the rule of law and reiterates that those who break the law should be punished. The behavior we are seeing is the most ugly of behavior - taking advantage of those who are down. President Bush has mobilized military for law enforcement and relief efforts. Again, due to the extreme nature of the circumstances, there is little more that he or ANY HUMAN BEING can do.

The real question to those who bitch and moan is, what are YOU doing to help?

              That is all.

Obsession, you can do better... If you are going to complain, at least try to spell so others can rag on you for what you say and not just how you tried to say it.

"I'm" carpooling, but that doesn't help anything, because "HE" and "they" being the president, congress, senate, aren't doing anything to regulate the gas companies. This is just the tip of the iceberg... Katrina was just an excuse and a reason to jack things up even more. They claim gas shortages in Atlanta... so they can charge 5.75+/gallon for gas. Yet there was the exact same thing in AZ last summer on two different occasions and gas prices didn't go up a dime. The gouging is criminal, and nothing is being done about it, end of story. Raising prices isn't lowering consumption, and it won't, because the people who use the most gas can't just stop. And the people who don't won't have a siginificant impact. Not to mention, before Katrina, prices were going up 10-15c a week anyways. Again, refer to california and their energy "crisis". Amazing that things weren't any better with deruglation and jacked up prices. The exact same is true with our current gasoline situation.

This is just a shitty situation overall and there's really nothing any of us can do about it other than live our everyday lives and wait it out because the situation isn't going to change anytime soon.
