4L80E is the PERFECT candidate for a car with over 700hp. The converter alone steals 100 hp. Would want a 6.0 and alot of torque for that bitch. Heavy land barges need 400/4L80'sOriginally posted by bluchev View Postoh, ok.
if he is really gonna turbo it later on, it would be wise to start with a better trans like a turbo 400 or a 4l80e.
much more expensive but much more reliable

Actually I was not really aware of what this swap was going into
But I retract my comments. Verts weak link in this whole dang blasted motor swap were my comments for using an "e" tranny and he should use his stated 700r4.
I just never knew a 700 in stock form will work with a LS in stock form. Wow, I learned something new today from TCS.
Thank you TCS

a 700r4 and a 4l60e have the EXACT same dimensions and share most all the same internal partsOriginally posted by Meegs View PostActually I was not really aware of what this swap was going into

Vert, if you get to the point of doing this, let me know. I can probably lead you to a few links that might save you some time and effort. Otherwise you can search on thirdgen.org or ls1tech.com
There's threads on everything from swaps (including motor mount templates) to 4l80e installs.

Well its a slippery slope, a 6.0 with a decent sized turbo and a good tune and its right in that territory. So it doesnt make much sense to me to try and build a 700 or 60e that "might" handle the abuse, when you could just build a 400 or 80e and not have to worry about it down the road.Originally posted by octanehuffer View Post4L80E is the PERFECT candidate for a car with over 700hp. After seeing those pics of the transmissions you have id say you should look for a better core to start with.Originally posted by Vert View PostChad, cost to build one of my turbo 400 cores?
