I cannot believe that. I run into the same amount of idiots into old cars as I do in the import scene. Its just that in the domestic scene you have musclecar Bob who claims how his 71 318 Roadrunner will lift a tire on the street because he has cheater slicks and 5.27 rear gears and the sound that only an RV cam and dumped Cherry Bombs can provide
I don't think it comes down to whose an idiot and who is not. I think it comes down to a majority of guys who are into old cars want to look at old cars, not a bunch of stuff from the mid-80's and up which have a very different style and vibe. The late seventies - early 80's was kinda a car paradigm shift, much like in the early 60's. Where the actually "coolness" shift was has moved up in the past number of years so I think you will see the new date be 1981 or 82 pretty soon.
FYI:
North St. Paul is 1975 and older.
Hastings is '76 and older.
If indeed Porkys will soon be history, I for one will miss it. I enjoy stopping down and doing some parking lot sitting with many of the people from here. I also have enjoyed watching the large variety of cars cruise through. I know my son has, too.
Sure, just about every night you could find a few tool bags driving through. I guess that is what happens when you bring a large group of diverse people to one place.
So, where will I go now? Well, Minnetonka Drive-Inn is a hike for me. I have stopped out there a few times and I have enjoyed it. The crowd seems more mature and you don't have the plethora of peeler-outs like you see on Uni'. I guess I find it kind of boring.
The car shows are fun to go to, but they are just that. Car shows. It is nowhere near the same as the Pig.
I am a bit more glad that I sold my car. I was thinking about buying another this summer, but now I am not in any big hurry.
I have two groups I can hang with now. Drive the Nissan, hang with the ricers. Drive the Saturn, hang with the homos.

A few guys and i were discussing the drive in that is for sale in Newport. It would be perfect. It is smack in between N. St. Paul and Hastings. The old Holiday station next to it is also for sale. Plenty of parking and the go kart track is also next to it and would love the business. A good friend of mine who has lived in Newport his entire life said the city is very open to new ideas for business since the highway changed. We would need to talk to the Porkys people about using the name and maybe buying the recipes for the onion rings and pork cutlet sandwich. This was a fairly serious conversation. I'll keep you posted. Who knows, maybe the Porkys folks would be interested in trying it again. This is a great location imo.

They should open a porkys on main street in Anoka. Think of how busy it would be because of the car show. The spot on the corner of main and ferry was for sale it would have been perfect.
When someone calls you a racist, tell them: You try watching your peaceful, clean, safe town that you grew up in and loved turn into a dirty, crime- and drug-ridden shithole all at the hands of one segment of the population and then come tell me I don't have the right to loathe the perpetrators.

Good luck. Newport is a shit hole and the old A&W is in horrible horrible shape. I'm sure it could be bought for next to nothing though. It's been on the market for 5 years and the owner's intended use for it shit when the city rezoned it.

It's been a while since I dealt with Newport on zoning issues, but I think it's Mixed use Downtown, which would allow it to be a drive-in restaurant, but I don't think Newport would want cruising considering their history with dealing with Red Rock and if the local police aren't receptive to it being a cruising or weekend hang out spot whatever sucker buys that dump and spends 300k getting it started they are destined to fail.
Even if the city likes the cruising and so on. I highly doubt the business would make enough money to stay open.
still in basic I believe. Turds are fast tho I've heard.
