anyone good with transmissions?

Something broke in my trans, and my mechanic quoted me "up to about $2000" to fix it. I dont know exactly whats wrong with it, because they didnt open it up.

Im just wondering if I should just have them do it and hope for the best, or if there is a better way to go about this.

For about the past month, it had occasionally had problems upshifting. (Its an auto btw). It would rev up and take awhile before it finally shifted. Then this past Friday, it was doing it a ton. Later I was going to go out, backed into the street, and it would not go forwards. I can do reverse, but thats it.

It sucks too, my car only has 33k on it, and im not really that hard on it, so this is pretty crappy.

Im just curious, I had a flush done in November. Could they have done something weird with it that could have broken something?

But would they admit it... I didnt have this problem before I had that done, so its possible I suppose. Or it could just be a coincidence.

Plus would it happen that fast? Ive put about 3k miles on it since then.

Right now its already at the mechanic, I just need to figure out if I want them to fix it, or do something else.
