    Need help with timing...

Ok, I have an '87 Stang GT 5.0, AOD. I just had to put a new distrib in it today so I am about to set the timing. I have a question before I go about doing this though. My book says :

Disconnect the single wire inline SPOUT connector which connects the control computer to the ignition module. This will prevent the electronic ignition from advancing the timing during the setting procedure.

Where in the heck is that?? Another thing... why does my book refer to the module on the distrib as both a TFI module and a ICM?? Aren't they two different things?
I have a Chilton repair manual I am looking at. I stopped at my local Ford dealership and they said the TFI is the same thing as the ICM.

yep you have to pull out the spout connector in order to set initial timing.

the tfi is located on the dizzy. it is connected to the same harness that the spout connector is.

its the lil thing looking like a big fuse that is on this wire to the left of the distributor. Don't foget to advance the timming to atleast 12 degrees

timmah's is at 14 right now and i should be able to go a little higher.

it really depends on what YOUR engine likes. some like really high timing and others like right around 11 or 12.

maybe sure if you are running 12 or higher to run 92 octane gas. otherwise you are risking pinging which is not good at all.

I'm at 12 degrees and running either '90 or 91 octane and have no problems with it! '87 octane just make the car runs aweful!

yep i run 92-93 just to be safe. ya never know when a hot day will cause the car to ping if your timing is up there.
