    pushrod length question.

ok im getting ready to order pushrods. I have 7.500 stock I measured what I need and it is 7.75 for a tight fit, not pressing in the lifter. I punched in my combo on summit.com and it came up with 7.894 seems about right for me, but if anyone has put systemax heads on a 351 or if you can tell me that 7.894 sounds like the right length for hydraulic lifter please chime in before I order these.

I am using pedistal rockers so it would be nice if someone can tell me what to get here...

Why don't you just get an adjustable pushrod? Better to do it right the first time.

how do you think I got the 7.75 measurement. like I said that is uncompressed lifter. the lifter is not squeezing down. so the measurement is not perfect.

Has the block been decked, the heads resurfaced? What head gasket are you using. You really need to measure and order what your engine needs not what some book or some site says.

Welcome to the world of custom shit, it never fits the way the book tells you it will.
                  Don't ask, it's a midlife crises thing.

come on old man, did you just skim through the post as well... this is no where near my first build this is just my first build with pedistal rockers I guess im not sure how perfect they need to be. I have assembled the engine the new cam is in with just oil on the 2 lobes I am measuring push rod length checker installed. everything is set now how much do I add for hydraulic lifters when the rockers are not adjustable.

you have to figure in head gasket thickness, lifter preload, ect to your final length

My point was for you to trust your measurement not some book. I did not mean to insult you with my response. If that were my intent it would not have been subtle.

The lifters should not be collapsed soak it in oil for a few days, use your light pressure test spring and measure it. As for the pedestal rocker part, they need to me close, you can adjust them with the pedestal spacers.

I have know people that have taken a lifter apart and shimmed the plunger to make it a solid roller just for measuring.

this is what I want, need to know. the heads are on the heads gaskets are installed. the lifters are not bleeding down so I cant get a proper preload. any idea how much to add, to reach the lifter centerline.

                          see heads on
