1.) Current problem: 95 K2500 350 TBI 4L80e 4.10's 4x4
The current engine is leaning out/burning up plugs (white)..... and overheating. I have swapped damn near everything but the engine itself. It held at 235 degrees for about a week but is now spiking to 260 at idle while driving. I have never really "cooked the block"...let it stay at 260 degrees for very long.
Runs great no mixing fluids, no engine light, no exhaust in cooling system. Idle is correct. Damn thing came with a single sore radiator from the factory and i just replaced it with the same style (used).. Was thinking about putting in a severe duty dual core style like what I used in my suburban (But it was $579).
I put in a new hayden(?) external tranny cooler between the radiator and condenser in place of the tranny's return-line warmer that was within the radiator. I installed it near the bottom corner where the return hose of the radiator goes up to the water pump. The return line does not seem as hot as the radiator.
Could it be just be a bad brand new water pump? The hoses have good pressure..
Low mileage used radiator... Brand new thermostat, radiator cap, hoses, serpentine belt, water pump, external tranny cooler/warmer, fan clutch
Fan is about 4-5" from the radiator.. would a spacer help?
I am seriously chasing my tail throwing money at this thing with no changes..
Penny for your thoughts.
2.) SBC Questions:
What exactly is the difference between 81 5.7L 2bolt main and a 95 5.7L TBI (block and heads)?
What Sensors are missing?
Can I throw my stock tbi setup on top of some vortec heads (where can I buy this intake)?
What is the failure rate of the electric water pumps?
Will a 5 angle valve job on either the stock heads or vortec's throw off the stock TBI?
I want to keep the Stock Fuel delivery(parts availability)but plan on shorties and mild duals, with X pipe and quiet... restrictive... near stock mufflers.
Will the vortec heads need a different header pattern?
Stock ignition or can i use a 6al (pills
) with the stock TBI?
