Does it have to be a Ford? We have always used Fords for our service trucks, but since the 7.3's have went bye bye it has been nothing but problems. We are switching to Chevys.

Ended up getting the 6.4, heard from 2 different dealers that the new 6.7 is going up 5 grand in price, so if I didn't care about money I would have waited because I love the way the new body style is going to look also but heard pretty good things about the 6.4. Hope it is a good truck!2002 Ford Excursion

my dad is getting 15mpg with his 08 6.4. The only problems he's had in 30,000 miles is cyl 1 injector bad and the fuel jelled twice last year. it's been a great truck. we see a TON of 6.0's and 6.4's at my dealer. it seems the 6.0's don't have that many problems if they are maintained properly. i would own one now. we recently have had a bunch of 6.4's come through knocking. all trucks were waaaaaay over on their oil changes. our diesel guys figured it was caued by all that diesel fuel sitting in the crank case from the regen process. you can eliminate ALOT of the problems on the 6.0's and 6.4's with proper maintenance....... and i would eliminate the DPF as soon as posible!! they pick a ton of power and MPG-DS Motorworks built non-pi 4.6 2v

What is the DPF and what is its purpose? If removed does it void warranty?Originally posted by 98RioRedGT View Postmy dad is getting 15mpg with his 08 6.4. DPF=diesel particulate filter. Required on all current diesels for emmissions. During a regen diesel fuel is injected into the catalyst to burn out all the junk that is bad for mother nature. If you program it out it will void warranty for sure, not sure if it can be done without leaving a trace that you did it. I'm sure someone will correct all or part of this post.

Technically if they look hard enough they can be found visually (spray pattern out side of the combustion chamber) and electronically (ones and zeros baby!!)Originally posted by tim View PostCheck out some diesel forums. Might be a programmer out there that doesn't leave a footprint. I doubt it though.
But some dealers/Techs are "mod" friendly, just find a good dealer/Tech. But if you buy a programmer with a mild tune and a regen delete....you maybe on to something....
Just make sure you don't surpass $6K in repairs so some ass clown from ford (*caught-Shane-caught*) has to come and take a gander at it.....
Here's a pic from my old truck, you can see the star pattern on the top of the piston. Star = aggressive tune

we've seen the star pattern on non-tuned trucks also... and you can spend alot more than 6k before Ford sends an inspector. we've had many 10k plus repairs with no inspectorOriginally posted by Got Diesel?
