rev limit 3000rpms... mustang

cant figure this one out.... engine will not rev above 3000rpms.

runs fine otherwise, seems to have plenty of power but wont rev above 3000rpms. tryed nuetral sensor conected, dissconected, grounded... tryed changing ignition coil... tryed changing ecu. compleatly stripped back harness and checked ever conection and every sensor and made sure everything was within spec. checked ecu for codes. non present.

I was planing on swaping out the tfi next but thought I would ask if anyone has ever had a problem like this before...

Bad TFI module would be my guess.

That's what we thought last night, but if its not the tfi, what else would cause a symptom like this?

I would make sure the ECU harness has a good ground. There is a few grounds under the hood and then there is one right by where the harness mates to the actual ECU.

If the guts inside the distributor are bad, then that can cause all kinds of issues.

I just recently replaced my old dizzy with a brand new OEM Ford unit (Thanks Casey) and it seemed to fix the RPM issues I was having. Little different then what you are having but it fixed the issue.

New fuel filter and pump... I thought of ground checked over looked good added extra one just to be safe

well the sensor is good... it ran fine on thundercoug at least... I could go back over and recheck the signal at ecu I guess... I will give that a check.

Just cause it's new doesn't mean it's good.

checked fuel pressure it is at 35psi at idle and 45psi with vac disconnected.
