    Winter Storage

    Hey everyone,

What does everyone who stores their stang for the winter, do to winterize it? I do an oil change, full tank of gas with stabilizer, make sure the tires are filled up to the right PSI, take out the battery, lube up door joints, give everything a good cleaning, and cover it up.

What else do you guys do? Also, is there anything special for storing a convertible vs a coupe? My guess is to make sure all the weatherstrip has some sort of protection on it, and make sure the top is nice an clean

The only other thing I do is put some conditioner on the seats, and I try to start it at least once a month and give it a spin around the block if the roads are dry...

COBRA: I clean 'er up, change oil (reminds me, gotta order some more Amsoil), fill 'er up, haven't but will put a stabilizer in, lay down a tarp on the garage floor to keep moisture down, put downy or bounce dryer sheets ALL over the place! In & out and around the motor and right under the dumps, then cover 'er up! I used to take out the batt., but with the Optima the cables are stretched so tight, I don't even wanna take it out... so I drop one of 'em. I DON'T, however, start it once a month! My reasoning; by 4 weeks time of sitting, the oil has completely dropped into the pan, so you have like 4-6 nasty start ups over the winter as opposed to just one in the spring. I do know of the idea of keeping seals lubed, but I already have a rear main leak, and the rest are fine so I don't bother.

The LIGHTNING: Well... depends. I have been lucky enough to get pole shed storage... but dirt ground. So I'd lay down a couple tarps, don't have a truck cover... so I'd lay blankets on the hood and roof, take out the batt. And of course usually change the oil. Oh and fill it. But now this year... no inside storage, and I'm not sure where she's gonna end up yet? I was hoping to have it sold by now.

The McLaren: She just sat outside last winter for the most part... driving on days when the roads were clear. I need to sell that though to get rid of the loan...

Anyone got space for outside storage??

At first I was just gonna order the whole shabang put together already... AFR aluminum headed D.S.S. 331 built w/low compression for future blower...
But it's cheaper to build yourself, and I know a guy that has a 'P' block that's pretty complete that he'd sell me... so I think I'm just gonna buy that and have a buddy help me build it!

The tough part that I can't decide on is do i powder coat the block RED, or just leave it for sleeper look?? I want he sleeper look, but you know how badass blocks that are coated look!

Tim, I think with your car, you should have the block RED! With that optima red top in there, red wires, and a red block, that engine bay will look sweeeeet!

I've also been looking into getting a DSS short block, but you're right about the price. the thing that i like about them is they seem like a very good machine shop (i've read up alot about them...QUALITY), and might be worth the extra coin. I think i'd go without painting, but i haven't got that far along in my thought process, i'm still thinking about which components for my setup.
is your motor that tired, or you just want a stroker/beefier motor?

Oh I'm still cotemplating internals too yet. I just figured since I'll have the other motor sittin' there... it'd be way easy to send it off after tear down and have it done. I guess it doesn't look too sleeper anyways w/a blower later!
"Tired"?? Lol... only 27k original on 'er, so..... no. I just need SPEED!

i was kinda wondering why you wanted a sleeper look if you are getting the lower compression (i assumed for blower), but i just figured whatever floats your boat. :chuckle:

Well it would be sleeper for a whole season, if thing's worked out right, cuz I'd like the following year to add the blower.
