ok. I built an engine (probably the first mistake). 302 from a granada. in a 66 mustang. it is installed, tranny vaccum lines aren't hooked up but all the vaccum lines and blocked off for that. it turns over and backfires. it will occasionally fire but not well. it will not run. it will not fire often. there is spark. we have messed with the timing to no avail, but it seems timed. we have tried 2 firing orders. the correct one for the year is 15426378. it tries the best there. it has a 750 edelbrock, a crane cam, performer rpm intake. petronix ignitor 2 conversion from points. the rest is mostly stock. tried a new coil, no go. several people are perplexed as to why it won't run. any help is greatly appreciated. I have 2 days to do this.

Have you actually checked the timing with a timing light? I have checked with a timing light, TDC is close to where the distributor is pointing to the #1 cyclinder. adjusting didn't help. we also tried 180 degrees off just to be safeOriginally posted by xjfish View PostHave you actually checked the timing with a timing light? that's what we got, early 289. 302 order. we have 3 books confirming it. no brakes booster. I did notice that the heads have what appears to be emissions holes in the heads.........the exhaust stroke kicks out a threaded hole in the headI'd be unstoppable if it weren't for law enforcement and physics.Originally posted by xjfishCool story bro. Check the compression. Maybe you have the valves too tight/too loose. Are you going the correct way around the distributor? Start with 1 and go counterclockwise. Where is the car located? I could possibly swing by Saturday on my way down to midway to see if I could help. Nick8.54 @ 159 mph on a 275 drag radial
