Is anyone here pretty knowledgeable with the 4R100 transmissions? I have some questions about our 2000 Expedition and want to talk to somebody.

Our Expedition started feeling really sluggish like the tranny was slipping yesterday. There was also a noise when you accelerated that sounded almost like a scratching or grinding. The truck shifts erratically and when I finally did get it to shift into overdrive on the highway it would shift right back out when you gave it any throttle. The noise was still there and then right before I got to the shop it shifted back into overdrive and then the RPMs were jumpy. When the guy that was looking at it went to pull it into his shop he said that it would hardly move and was slipping really bad.
I have changed the tranny fluid every 30k in the truck and we don't tow with it a whole lot. I would like a second opinion on the truck as our guy says that he thinks the tranny needs to be rebuilt. drop the pan on it and you should see an indication of failure, from the problems youre describing.

Possibly but could just need a solenoid pack. I have not seen allot of failures in the 99-2000 trucks many converters but not so may Trans failures, not like the 2001's any way.

should have just asked him if the fluid was cooked, that will tell you what it needs, usually if they dont move the fluid is brown and burnt smellingComment
