I have a 99 Chevy truck with the 7 pin connector. What do I have to do to get the trailer brakes working? There is a harness in the glove box?

When we got to my place, I already had a candle burning. It was by "Glade", which I think you pronounce like the singer Sade, because it is an exotic candle that smells just like real pine.

It says "Consult your local automotive forum."Originally posted by Dustball View Post
I am thinking the fuse just goes in right below where the harness plugs in.
So now I am just wondering why the guy told me everything works great on the trailer and when I picked it up the lights never worked and there are wires hanging down below it.
I was working on it today and then my hands got cold and I was holy shit it's cold out. Then I looked at the thermometer and it was 2*

I don't know about Chevy's but on my F150 all I had to do was plug the brake controller into a plug under the dash and I had trailer brakes...Originally posted by SDK View PostIt says "Consult your local automotive forum."

After looking online I think that is about it. Now I just need to find out which wires are hanging underneath the trailer

the connector plugs in to the relay junction box under the dash on the left side near the emergency brake. Remove the cover and find the correct place to plug it in. It's the top row. That wires to your brake controller obviously, then go under the hood to the fuse panel, install the fuse into "stud 1" i believe but it's been awhile since i have done one. It might be stud 2 possibly. then there is a wire" i beleive it's red" that has an eyelet already attached to it, that goes onto the threaded stud near the battery i think.that should be it unless i missed something.Last edited by purple_50; 03-11-2009, 11:03 PM.

Did the trailer brake harness come with the truck? or did you purchase it recently? they changed 2 wires around on the new harnesses that will apply the trailer brakes when you turn on the headlights, so the 2 wires need to be switched if so

Yes I have the right one that came with the truck. What a joke that they did that. We hooked up to a trailer with an avalanche a few years ago in a pole shed with lights on. Then when we pulled out at night the brakes slammed on.Originally posted by purple_50 View PostDid the trailer brake harness come with the truck? or did you purchase it recently? they changed 2 wires around on the new harnesses that will apply the trailer brakes when you turn on the headlights, so the 2 wires need to be switched if so
