How much power with a stock short block?

I was wondering how much horsepower the lower end of a 302 (non-HO) can handle. I know the block is only capable of about 500HP but what about the stock crank and rods? I will be putting on aftermarket forged pistons, so I'm not worried about those.

Kenny (Novi2KGT) made around 600 to the tires for a couple of years on a stock short block. His ended up snapping the crank into a few pieces and putting a nice window in the block.

A lot of factors can determine how long the setup will last. The tune is a bid deal when talking about 500+ hp on a stock block.

They could handle 300 rwhp they might even handle over 600 rwhp. Like Tim said the tune is a big deal and it also depends on what you are planning on doing with it. Like if its a drag car or pretty much a street car. There are tons of guys that have easily made 500+ rwhp and they last a while, then there are others that don't last much past 400 rwhp.

I'm not going to get on that soapbox again.

It will hold all of the power you can through at it, right up to the point it blowes up.
