Are aftermarket shifters hard to install?

Right now my stang has a hurst short throw, but it seems a lil out dated than some others on the market. I'm looking at the MGW shifter. I've never installed one, does anyone have this one, and if so does it come with good instructions? I've heard to use RTV instead of a gasket, anymore info would be great

do you have a t-5? well either way it dont matter it should be relatively easy to with the trans in the car. the only real trouble i had was the 2 rear shifter bolts (under the floor/tunnel). and the stop studs in the shifter may not fit in the stock console(idk for sure)?? but mine dont so just fyi

i have a billet aluminum fidanza shifter and the stop studs on the front and back didnt really fit in the console/floor (i notched the console under the boot and it seemed to work but i liked it w/o them so they arent in it). mine is like a upto 50% reduction or something like that.

EDIT: make sure you replace the shifter bushing in the trans you could probably get it at tousley or AV ford pretty cheap

Are you saying you removed the stop studs? If so thats one of the biggest advantages of an aftermarket shifter it protects your trans forks from overshifting IIRC

But yes with very little mechanical ability you will be able to install the shifter regardles of who makes it.

I've installed a Steeda Tri-Ax in my buddies Fox. Easy, took maybe 30min. Not quite as easy as the sn-95/new edge cars as they have alittle more room, but still it's a cake walk. I used black RTV instead of a gasket.

87mustangguy306 is a fucking moron. Why would you remove the shifter stops and completely negate the whole purpose of a soorrt shifter?

i have a billet aluminum 3/4 shift fork im not to worried about bending/breaking it and i dont slam gears like most people do when they break them... but yes i removed them they dont fit with the poly bushings i have everywhere right now. but i have to rip my interior apart to put the heater core in it so ill probably notch the floor for them..

Where do you have poly bushings that interfere with the shifter Sure its not your huge donkey dick shift knob Its still a t5 anything you can do to help it last the better but thats just my opinion

i have a hyper flex kit in my car EVERYTHING is red poly. the X member and trans mount pushed the trans up about a 1/2" higher. my shifter came with studs also which are longer than bolts so its about 1/4" from the floor. i had to use a floor jack and a BFH to get my X member to just go in the mounts.

EDIT: i also installed my shifter before the engine/trans combo went back in the car which made it 100% easier
