Bodyshop guys, how hard is it to replace truck cab?

Being the nit picky person that I am, I'm wondering how hard it is to replace the cab on my 2000 Silverado. Two summers ago it got hit hard on the drivers side. The door, cab corner, and passenger side box were repaired. I've never been happy with the work that the guy did.

My question is how hard is it to transfer the wiring, heater core, steering shaft, and so on.

To have a legitimate shop cut, repair, and paint the cab corner right it would be about $2500. I've seen cabs for about $1200, hang the doors, and paint it I'd figure it would be about $2500 total.

I would think it would be cheaper to repair. Unless you can find a complete cab, which would cost a lot more, I would think paint and labor to swap everything over would be a lot more than 1200 dollars.

      What color is your truck?

Unless you have a very easy color, I doubt a replacement cab will match. So you will probably end up nit-picking that instead. Then you will want it repainted lol.

I believe a cab shell is @ $1200. I'd swap everything over myself. I'd have someone else paint it.

Fuck that, have someone you know and trust fix the damn thing. Pulling a cab is bad enough when doing an engine. You would have a solid 2-3 days work into depending on how hard and fast you work. And then doing it with out a hoist would be a total pain in the ass to try and get it back on the frame and lined up. If you are going to go as far as this you might as well pull the bed and do a total frame off rotisserie restoration. Not to be a wise ass but thats an ass load of work.

              OK.

So is there anyone on this board that does GOOD work. Someone that's not high on crack/meth, won't want money up front to "get started", won't disappear for a couple of weeks, and will return phone calls in a timely manner, etc?

When I worked at bonfe's I did a frame swap on a silverado and that paid me 27 hours. The bed was taken off already by the body shop but I had to take the cab off... it was a bitch to do even with two hoists.

I could gut a cab in an day. The hard part would be lifting and installing the other cab, then having the energy to reinstall everything else.
You have been banned for the following reason:
Yeah, I'm really tried of cleaning up after you.
Date the ban will be lifted: Never

Good body work is not cheap by any means, you get what you pay for in most cases

swaping cabs would be pricy. im guessing your looking at 2500 bucks in just swaping it, without the price of the cab.

if you like stop by and i can see what i can do to repair what the last guy did wrong.
