Third gear is a real pain.

I was out at Grove Creek today and trying to get into third gear was almost impossible with the rev's up over 5k. Anyone else have this problem and how do I resolve it? It's a Tremac 3650 tranny that comes on the 04 GT.

The best mph I had today was 77 with a .467 reaction time and 2.13 60 ft.
No sense putting a supercharger on it until I get this fixed and sure takes the fun out of going down the track.

    Thanks,
    Ray

I am not sure of the tranny prob, but with a reaction time like that, I need to ask if you know to leave on the 3rd yellow, right? Not trying to flame your racing, just trying to add insight if you are just starting out.

Plus they never wear out.

    I disagree.

LOL. Didn't say my reaction time was GOOD............ Considering I had a reaction time of 2.6 on one of the first runs, it's an improvement. Had a flat at the car wash before heading out to the track, so I was just glad to get there and have some fun. The staff at Grove Creek were good people and got me a lot of runs since I got there pretty late.

After I settled down and remembered reading about the 3rd yellow, I tried to start out using it. Only red-lighted once, so I'm not pushing the envelope so to speak.

Downloaded the TR-3650 Service manual and will be trying a different tranny fluid and less of it.

Are you directing your shift to 3rd? All you want to do is push forward and the spring loaded shifter will direct you right into it. (assuming you have an aftermarket one)

Get a Steeda Tri-Ax short shifter and you won't miss third anymore. It has a strong spring to direct you into 3rd.

You can also check to see if any of the tranny's were recalled that year. I had an 01 GT and had a similar problem with the "synch fork". You might want to ask the dealership about that one. If it was a factory recall they should fix it for you at no charge to you.

            Just an idea...

i have a tko that's doing the same thing. engages fine below 5k. but above that the shift handle is allowed to move too far over to the right side.( palming straight up also)

like the fork is slipping off or something. i'm not much of a tranny guy. will be sending it to d&d shortly so i'll let you all know what the problem is.

I have the Pro 5.0. Testing last night without the helmet on, I did hear syncro's speeding up when trying to get into third above 5k. I have searched on 3650 in several large forums and my problem isn't unusual. Taking it to the dealer means putting the stock shifter back on as Ford seems to void the warranty if you have a non-stock shifter installed.

Really hate this crap. Either live with it or get another car............
