    Exhaust cutout/Exhaust Gas education please.

I want to put an electric cutout on my car. I have a Buschur 3" downpipe and test pipe, then stock catback bolted on to the back of that.

I love it dead quiet for cruising around, car goes by cops unnoticed (kinda its a panda car).

Of course I don't want to lose performance so I bought a cutout, anywho I was wondering what is the best way to put it into the exhaust system.

I found a cutout pipe/flowtech at a local shop and it was basically a rectangle patch cutout on the straight pipe to suck flow from the normal route. My thought was that the exhaust would still want to go straight back or will it take the easier route of going out of the cutout?

I thought of cutting a hole in the test pipe and intersecting/block a lot of the flow with the cutout then I will for sure be getting most of the flow thru the cutout when it is open.

Thanks for your time and comments. I just want to do this the right way.

It will go out the cutout. There's no need to divert it.

When you say downpipe Im guessing you got a turbo?
With a turbo you want to get the exaust out a quick as possible for performance.
Non FI motors it depends on what you want out of the motor. More hp or tq?
If you put the cut out right after the collector you'll get more hp but lose tq.

And the exaust will flow the way with less resistance.
Im in Blaine letting some girl get 14" inches, i think she knows you....

hp WINS races and all cut outs suck. They carbon up and leak and have problems sealing over time no matter what kind you get unless you clean them often and they still leak.

Most cutouts are shit for flow anyways... Just design the exhaust system correctly and / or pull the mufflers off when you want to make more power.

But either way you're trying to manipulate your powerband relative to backpressure and pulsewidth.

You'll get more power with an X pipe and a properly sized system. Loud isn't always fast, look at 98% of the Shebby trucks on the road

why would you want a cutout on a 4 cylinder? i wouldn't get a cutout on a 4 cylinder even if it made 800 horse.

i think a cutout is a good idea, at least in theory, no matter how many cylinders you have.

i've considered them on my own car before, but never did it. seemed like a pain in the ass to put them in, wire it, etc. and i also heard alot about them leaking which was out of the question.

you could put them in anyway you want. if there is pressure in the exhaust from a restrictive muffler, it'll push out the cutout no matter how it is positioned.

i would just look for a good quiet performance muffler, such as a dynomax turbo or similar knockoff. don't get some import one, they're probably all loud. with a turbo muffler, and also a turbocharger, it should be pretty quiet.

yeah, that was an assholish thing to say, i am an asshole.

what brand cutout did you buy? installed as close to the downpipe would be the better, and when it is open it is already diverting the exhaust out the cutout instead of through your exhaust. unless you pay big dollars for somthing like a doug, an electric cutout isn't the most reliable and you can expect to be replacing it more then you might like, manual ones work better but then again it is annoying going under the car everytime you want your exhaust open.
