98 silverado ABS issue

    98 silverado ABS issue

    Classic under 10mph abs activation when not needed (ie dry pavement normal stopping). I know there was a recall for the newer ones 99+ (speed sensor or some deal) but with research I found that many 98s did it too. Who do I call to figure it out just the service desk at any chev dealership?
    Or even a decent website to outline the recall?

    USUALLY RUST GETS UNDER THE SENSOR WHERE IT IS BOLTED TO THE HUB. PRETTY EASY TO FIX.

      replace sensors, or do the whole wheel bearing if needed

        Give me the last 8 digits of your VIN and I can tell you if there is an open recall on your pickup.

          x2, it pushes the sensor out of range. It then gets a false reading. Pull the sensors, wirewheel/clean off the area around the hole and bolt the sensors back up.

                So the rust physicly pushes the sensor up and out of range correct? Its just a magnetic pickup right? (have not tore it apart yet its my dads truck)

                      I believe they are a hall effect sensor.

                      once you clean the rust off throw some primer/paint on there so it doesn't happen again.

                        Most of the time you cant get the sensors out and you will need to replace the hub and bearing assembly

                          if the rust cleaning doesn't work drive it to the chevy dealer and drive threw the service desk.
