    Intercoolers.....

Ok, I have been thinking about this for a while. Since intercoolers work so well in a forced induction state since they make the intake charge a lot more dence would they work for a n/a car the same way they would work for a blower car?

if you think about it, wouldn't it be sweet to drop off a ton of heat and pick up some power? i am not sure if it would be worth the money to intercool a n/a car. i think of it like using nitrous, kind of like sending a cool, dence charge into the intake causing the intake to cool, thus producing more power.

do you think this idea is far fetched or just something that no one has done before or what?

i kinda would like to see if it would work, but i wanted to hear what other people would say.

some may think its dumb, others may think its an awesome idea. something like the boost cooler idea. i guess they have a system for n/a cars now. wouldn't it be cool to have a intercooler that works the same way????

    lets hear your thoughts.

Well, I measured the IAT on my 04 GT and it was only 2-4 degrees above the outside temp. So I don't think an intercooler is going to do much good and it will also restrict airflow.

Superchargers depending on the type and boost create a lot of heat compressing the air. Getting the IAT down to 20-50 degrees above ambient seems to be pretty good using a intercooler. Plus intercoolers can drop the boost 1-2 lbs.

I also could be full of BS as I don't have a SC yet. lol

intercoolers are great on forced induction cars because compressing the air heats it.
i don't think it'd help an n/a car at all. if anything it'd be more restriction.
edit- if you want cooler air charge, block off your egr spacer coolant lines and get a spacer between your upper and lower.

It'd restrict the hell out of the air intake system...by a lot. Shit...you get pressure drops from most intercoolers in a forced induction application.
        god damned tinypic.

I aggree with ya mnstang. I just need a spacer, but I dunno, cause my intake allready hits underneath my hood. But I got the mach1 hood, so that owuld clear I know without the spacer but woud it clear with the spacer?

I think a cold air intake kit would do a good job and if not better because of the less restrictions involved. In theory, it is a great idea. But is would be way more restrictive on a N/A car than with a huffer in it.

            I disagree.

Greg hit on this : It won't work well becuase there's significant intake restriction. It straight requires the engine to use power to pull the air through the Intercooler.

Forced induction components (Super/Turbo) chargers make the air so much hotter than ambient that it REQUIRES cooling to be most effective.

While intercoolers are not a viable option other Forced Induction tricks such as Methonal or Water injection tend to work great on N/A engine. Of course, they are really just covering up for insufficient fuel supply in about 90% of the cases.
