rim and tire size for 61?

so I have not been working on my mustang at all because I have been busy with my dads 1961 ford fairlane. right now it has my stock mustang rims and tires on it but they rub and are only being used tell the car gets running. when we got the car it didn't have the right rims and tires on it and now I am trying to find out what size they should be!

anyone know what a 1961 Ford Fairlane should have for the rims and tires?

61 should be the full size car like a Galaxie. It probably came with 14x5" rims. I wouldn't use any thing close to stock unless it is restoration of some kind. Newer Mustang wheels have to much negative offset. What is the plan for the car?

True but a little spacer takes care of that!

True. Kind of like that 3" longer shackle takes care of worn out springs. That 64 does look good. I tried them on a 64 Fairlane and would have needed at least a 1" spacer. I thought he was looking for some thing else so might as well try and find the correct offset if you can. That is also why I asked the intended use. I have all new springs, larger front bar, added rear bar, KYB gas shocks, and newer brakes. I am not comfortable with a thick spacer. If you drive straight at 30 MPH go for it.

That shackle looks good! Don't hate!
They are 1" spacers on there to give proper clearance. When the car was 1st acquired, it came with 3 steelies and 1 torque thrust. The tires were too big and rubbed up front if you wanted to turn sharp. These at least clear and will work until the car sells or different rims are acquired.

Darn! I have been going to therapy to quite hating shackles and I lost it. In the late 60's every auto store stocked things to "lift" cars. The car does look good with those wheels. About the only way to make a 64 look bad would be to put smithevo in the drivers seat. Was it the one torque thrust that said..Buy me.

Man, that car does look good with those wheels. At least the springs are weak enough that is doesn't look like it is plowing corn with the shackles! My brother bought and sold a 63 1/2 Galaxie 500XL 2dr HT he got out of CA that was destined for a 460 crate motor, etc. last year. I kinda forgot how cool those cars look. Closest I have ever owned was a63 Continental suicide door 4dr. Wish I still had that car but was a whole different flavor than the Galaxie. That car would be bagged with 20's and miles of straight black paint.

I have a cardomain page if anyone is interested in seeing where the build is going! I am trying to keep the car as stock as possible as my dad is old and wants something from his youth! as for the rims I found out a friend has a set off a 59 tbird that might work.

Yea those old farts. It is very nice of you to help out your dad. To give you a clue my first cars were 64 Fairlane, 66 Mustang, and 67 390 GT Fairlane. Let me tell you what I want from my youth. I wish I could make out with the same women in those same cars for the same amount of time.

ok so I did end up getting a set of original Ford 14" rims and now I need the tire size? I was thinking they should be about a 205/70-14 or so? anyone know what I can fit on that car?

Thats what I'm talkin about.
I have one on a 14" ford rim that was on my car when I bought it over 25 years ago. It is still holding air and looks almost new. I thought about calling a tire store to see if they wanted it for an old display. This is a lost treasure! If you want it for some test fitting it is yours.
