    Door hinge bushings

Never done them before. It looks like a bitch - keeping the door aligned and all. Dude at the body shop said the dash has to come out. $900 for one door!!!!!!!

I looked up the job in the shop manual and it says nothing about removal of the dash. It does however say that the original pins must be cut (or broken) out. The service pin uses some sort of revised clip to hold it in.

I would like to fix my ever-so-slightly saggy door but there is no way in hell that dash is coming out again. Not by me and surely not by some dude who doesn't know how my gauges and alarm stuff is wired in there.

SOMEBODY gimme the skinny on fox hinge bushing replacement! Any body guys looking to make some side $?????
I am looking to have it buffed and waxed as well. I don't trust myself with an orbital and I don't know what I need for what I got (slight oxydation, little wax left). 3M imperial hand glaze and good wax FTW?

They are a bitch. I just did them on a 92 GT about a month ago, I had forgotten how much they sucked. How much you offering?

Oh and taking the dash out won't help you one bit. He musta been confused with the explorer style hinges where theres a bolt coming from inside the car into the hinge. And I've done those with out pulling the dash I believe.

I though the barter thing was supposed to start with the guy doing the actual work?

How are they hard? Cut the old pins, hammer out the old bushings, pop in the new ones and the pin, put the clip on. Do 1 at a time with the door supported. Unless you can visibly see a problem with the bushings (like a broken one) I wouldn't bother though, they don't make much of a difference and your doors will probably end up in the same spot.

Well.... What always happens to me is; I tell someone what I feel is a fair price, usually half what youd pay at a professional shop (obviously not in this case.. LOL $450 a door is still outrageous) And usually get a reply back of "Oh, well so-n-so will do it for 1/10 of that."

Example: So lets say they get an estimate to paint their car for $8000 from a reputable shop, I say "I could do it for $4000", then I get the "well this guy I know will do it for $500"

Long story short I'll just ask people what they feel is fair, then I know if I should go any farther. But the arent that hard, just a pain in the ass, and its hard to avoid scratching the door jamb, you have to be extra careful.

And to reply to Orangecrush, You'll probably have to adjust the doors once the new pins are installed to make it shut like new.

buck fiddy? fuck ill drive to mn and do em for that.. lol

i did them with a friend in like an hour or 2, and i didnt have to cut my pins, i took the pin out on the bottom of the pin (cotter pin (SP?) and then hit em with a hammer and screw driver and they popped out...

its not hard at all, just put a fat tire under the door ( i did my stock turbine + a piece of wood) to support the door then hammer away.

50resto.com, or the parts stores will have them in the 'help!' section.

and $150 doesn't sound bad. I'll see if I can find a spot to do it.
