    '03 Ranger fueling issue

I'm having some issues with my ranger and thought maybe somebody here has had a similar experience.

    '03 ranger. 2.3litre manual, 190k

Went to leave from a buddies house and she wouldn't start. It was pretty low on gas so I figured I ran it dry. Put some gas in it, still won't start. I assumed the fuel pump went out. Pull the pump assembly out, and apart. Hook the pump itself directly to a 12v and it still seems to work.

I've checked the fuses, and the relay and they are all good. I reset the fuel pump shutoff deal in the passenger kickpanel and nothing seems to work.

Anybody have any thoughts on what I should look into next?

I'd still be leaning towards that shutoff...

first find out if you lost fuel or spark. second i would check fuel pressure it could be so low that it wont start.

when you know if it is missing spark or fuel it is easier to get on the right track to figure out what is bad.

Bottom line, you need to know if you've got power to the pump. The propper amount of power, too. Check with a test light or DVM for power AT the sending unit.

Try having someone spray some brake clean into the intake and see if it fires off, if it does you know you got a fuel issue.

Little update. I have spark, I have the inertia/shutoff switch jumpered, and I have no power at the pump.

From what I can gather w/o a wiring schematic, there are two power wires running to the fuel pump connector. A yellow/white one for something, and a black/pink one for the fuel pump power. I traced the harness from the pump back to a large connector thats on the underside of the drivers seat.

When I disconnect the plug and put a test light on the pin that corresponds to either of the power wires, I have power at that side of the plug, but when I reconnect it and check on the other side of the plug, I don't have any power.

I'll try to snap a pic of this connection block thing, its hard to describe.

You might have a loose pin fit in the connector, or you might have a bad wire somewhere that is just good enough to light a test light but dies when you put a real load on it.

It turned out to be that block of connectors. I'm not sure what was wrong with it but I messed with it for a while and she's back up and running. I lost my fuel gauge but I'll worry about that later.

It sounds to me like you need to replace the connectors sooner rather than later otherwise you risk being stranded on the side of the road.
