    Aluminum Flywheel

I just ordered Promotion T45 and clutch for my NA '96 Cobra. The car is currently at about 300 hp at the wheels, but I'd like to get a centrifugal blower before it's all said and done. The car is 90% street, 5% strip, 5% autocross/track.

Should I go for an aluminum flywheel or stick with steel? I'm not made of money, but I have a tendency to think that I might as well upgrade since I've got it apart. Have you guys upgraded and loved it? Upgraded and regretted it? I'm thinking the 4-valve might like the aluminum.

    Thanks.

The lighter rotating mass will allow the car to rev faster and the car will like it. However, if you are planning to launch at the strip, the heavier steel flywheel will carry more energy and will not bog as much at the line. For street driving and occasional racing around, Aluminum FTW!

It's been discussed before and thought it does help on the launch it hurts the rest of the time. resulting in an overall slower quarter mile time and slow track times all together.

I assume you are talking about the Steel/Iron flywheel, correct?

ya the steel is better for launch but not enuf to make up for the hurt the rest of the way down the track with the added inertia.

I think I'm going with a Fidanza. Sounds like its a win/win for the aluminum, other than the cost.

i upgraded from my steel flywheel to a fidanza aluminum. i didn't notice any difference in stop and go on the street that so many people worry about. and i also got my best 60ft and et at the track with it. if you're on the gas at launch i don't think the difference in inertia makes any difference.

but i did notice a difference going through the lower gears, much better! i would pay the money again for one..

I love my Fidanza in the track car. Recommended.

I got one and the recovery between shifts is more seamless due to less mass making it easier on the street to me. I like mine and would do it again.

                  I disagree.
