Looking at buying the high boost for a Fox Mustang 5.0, but my buddy said it would eat head gaskets unless o-ringed. He said I should just get the low boost, but I want the high boost. I don’t plan on doing this again, so I want to do it right. I don’t want to spend money I don’t have to, but again, I want to do it right. Anybody have experience, good or bad, running high boost on a stock block 5.0 with stock heads and gaskets?

I have seen 17psi on my "low boost"Originally posted by flstci71 View PostLooking at buying the high boost for a Fox Mustang 5.0, but my buddy said it would eat head gaskets unless o-ringed. setup.
I am running non-oringed heads/block. I am actually just using a standard felpro/ford gasket.
I am using head studs.
The key thing to factor in is how flat is your deck surface, and how flat are your cylinder heads. That will determine how well the gasket is going to seal to the surface.
The v2 has a higher step up ratio so you will not have to spin the blower as fast to get the cfm you would with a v-1.
The v-1's are a lot louder then the v-2's.
I am running a v-1 t-trim race.
Made 635rwhp and 605rwtq on 10-11psi.
O.C.R.
I make horse powerz

Stock heads and gaskets...how old are they?
I have run a lot of boost through non o-ring heads and never had a problem. Pretty much all lies in the tune and overall condition of the engine and its gaskets, fasteners and what not.
Get the high boost kit../ ____ _ _\.

Take this for a solid reference. I have a novi 2000 on my car with 13lbs boost. Stock heads, stock head gaskets, stock head bolts. Got over 10K miles on that setup. I think 10 lbs will be just fine.Originally posted by HackWhy spend all that money just to get a worn out copy of a small block Ford? It's going to be in the junk yard for a reason. I understand you have a religion called LS motors and you have faith that the LS motors break the laws of physics and work better and cost less than anything else ever built. Plus they never wear out.
I disagree.

Thanks for the info. The motor is pretty fresh, only 1-2K miles on it. Another buddy built it for his Cobra kit car, but pulled it to put in a 427 stroker. ARPs would have been good, but he didn't use them. We'd love the T-Trim, but that isn't going to happen. We'll try to get a good tune and just not get too crazy with it. I am leaning towards the V2 again. My son and I are doing this on his car, so all he needs to hear is "sweet peel outs" and he's sold. lol.
TRDon, can I ask why you bought the Novi? We looked at those too, but they're about $500 more than the Vortechs. I'm not a supercharger guru, so I wasn't sure what the real differences were.

The honest answer to that is that the 94-95s have a specific braketry. There was a guy on this board who was selling it, and it wont work on a fox and at the time I was one of about 5 94-95s on the board, and apparently the only one with money to buy it. But if I had to do it again, I would. Later finding out that the super rigid bracetry offered by the novi 2000 resists deflection to a point where belt throwing is non existant. The 1000 has a smaller bracket so it is still a potential problem. There are so many kits out there that people have small brackets and no problems, I dont think it is much of an issue. I am a fan of buying blowers used though. The novi and the nicer vortech like the s and t trims are bulletproof, cheap to rebuild if needed and typically cost less than 1/2 the cost of new.Originally posted by flstci71 View PostThanks for the info. Yes, that helps a lot, thanks. I’m trying to get past being an old guy. Back in the days of roots blowers, every mag out there always said to never buy used because most used blowers were junk and weren’t worth messing with. With these centrifugal blowers, I guess that’s no longer true. I would still be concerned with buying a used kit because it may not have all of the pieces. I will do some looking though (Mustang Forums, Corral, evilBay, etc) and see what I can find. Thanks again!

all you need are the brackets and the head unit. The other pieces are home depot or hardware store fittings and bolts. It is pretty intimidating to do the first time but I have done about 6-10 of them now and it is a piece of cake. Half the fun is knowing what you need and figuring out what you need to get you there. If you need a hand with it, Let me know and I can be of assistance if you wantOriginally posted by flstci71 View PostYes, that helps a lot, thanks. I’m trying to get past being an old guy. Thanks for the offer. I've got a buddy here in town who is giving us a hand. We'll all put our heads together and see what we come up with. I'll let you know how it turns out. Thanks again!Originally posted by TRDon View PostIf you need a hand with it, Let me know and I can be of assistance if you want
