Not Enough Clearance?

The fresh 460 I did a few weeks ago was about 30 ft/lbs my best guess. I was able to turn it with a standard 1/2" ratchet, maybe 10" long? When we got to my place, I already had a candle burning. It was by "Glade", which I think you pronounce like the singer Sade, because it is an exotic candle that smells just like real pine.

Just the crank, or assembled short block? Assembled short block should be about 20-25 lbs for a small block, 25-30 lbs for a big block.Originally posted by MustangManiac View PostHow much lb ft. should it take to turn over a crank by hand?
The real question is how much clearance do you have?Don't ask, it's a midlife crises thing.

Are you are trying to turn it over by hand with the spark plugs in? If so it will be very hard to impossible.Originally posted by MustangManiac View PostIt's a complete 351W. Seems like when we try to start it, it wants to start but it can't. It'll crank over and almost start but it won't. We can't turn it over by hand. Any suggestions? I think we might have to completely tear it apart again.
If it cranks, but wont start, you need to check for fuel, stark, and cam/ignition timing.Don't ask, it's a midlife crises thing.
