    junkyard GT40s: valvejob?

I just picked up some GT40s and wondering if I should have anything done to them before putting them on. Unfortunately I don't know how many miles are on them. I've heard it probably wouldn't be a bad idea to get a valve job but should I get anything else done? Because they're from an Explorer I've heard they can also be milled a bit to increase compression closer to the Cobras, but I don't know for sure. Keep in mind I'm trying to keep the cost low and just want a little more seat of the pants power. It's not a dragster, just a weekend cruiser.

Also, can anyone recommend someone that can do this work for a reasonable price?

Any helpful advice is appreciated. Thanks.

Check out Jax machine shop off of Pinto Drive in Hamel. He is pretty busy lately though.

Reasonable price and great customer service I definitely reccomend Knowltons Thunderheads in East Bethel. Little bit of a drive for you though, but worth it.

Whoever you choose you definitely should take them in. How sucky would it be if you get it all together and have problems with it due to head problems???

It is a damn poor mind indeed which can't think of at least two ways to spell any word.

Go to R + R in spring lake park 763-785-1949 By hwy 10 and 65 northen twin cites. They have done all my cylinder heads for years. and for only 175$ extra can pocket port your heads And they will flow much better than stock. I bought some world windsor Jr off ebay that needed work I have 200$ more than new into them now but they flow much beter than new across the whole range. If you want to spread out the costs those would bo ok but they are not much better than stock. A stock rebuild with no porting is in the 400 range. Get some 600-700 new iron heads off of ebay.

I have had only good experiences with R&R as well. Reasonable prices and good work.
