    Cobra Cams

So I have the 93 5.0, and I seen that the numbers for the GT and Cobra were about 25 off horsepower wise.

I know the intake manifold is different, and the cams are different from the GT. How many of those horses do you think I could get in the GT with just the cam swap? And would I have to try to locate cams out of a cobra, or do they make aftermarket ones with the same measurments that I could throw in there.

I am looking at putting a small supercharger on it (only 6-8psi) for a few more horses after I rebuild the engine, and maybe throwing a bigger manifold on there.

What you crackers think? (Non crackers, feel free to throw your .2 cents in as well)

cam, not much. i've even heard that the regular 5.0 cam is better than the cobra cam.

main differences are intake and the heads are different also. and some boltons are different.

you would want an aftermarket cam like a trickflow stage 1, ford e303, etc. but cam should be the last thing you do. the big gains to be had are in the intake manifold and the heads, plus boltons of course.

The specs on the 93 Cobra cam are barely better than the 93 GT cam, and almost the same as the 87-89 5.0 cam. (The 5.0 cam got slightly smaller over the years) Anyway the 93 Cobra cam would not be worth changing to. B303, or E303 would be better.

Currently I have the BBK shorty headers, BBK cold air intake, and electric fan. Got to redo the exhaust next, header back, and rebuild the engine, prolly do that over winter tho, just to give me something to do.

So I should to the Intake manifold first, with a pumped up throttle body 'eh? Do they make the bigger throttle bodies that allow me to keep my cruise control, cuz i am a lazy mo-fo.

If I remember correctly, the 93 Cobra cam actually had less lobe lift than the regular GT cam. The gross lift was bigger because the Cobra came with 1.7:1 rockers. I could be wrong though.

all aftermarket throttle bodies will allow for cruise control.

a larger mass air sensor is a good gain also, better than a throttle body.

So do you think that would be a good upgrade before I do anthing else? And doing that, do I need to do anything with the computer?

I think that you are right on this one. I put 1.7 rockers on my 94 GT with a cobra intake, thumper ported heads and the stock cam and it made a difference in the seat of the pants

The others are right. Ford tried the stock GT cam in the '93 Cobra and decided that it didn't have enough off-idle torque, so they put a milder cam in it. GT40 heads and intake by themselves will give at least 25 additional HP over a stock intake / E7 set up. IMO it's a good budget upgrade, since you can get the GT40 stuff way cheaper than buying aftermarket parts.
