Die Cast vs. Cast Aluminum welding...

Seeing if anyone knows. I am looking at new valve covers and there are a few options. I need some aluminum fittings welded on to the vc's regardless of what covers I get. I was just wondering if there is anything to look out for when using either material and having aluminum fittings welded to them.

die cast is a cleaner process vs sand casting. I doubt that a production part is sand cast though.

Is there pros and cons of either?

I am looking at having some AN fittings welded to either of the materials and I want to make sure that there isn't going to be a problem.

          Timmah-
I'd say run with the aluminum VC's since the fittings are alum as well, would probably weld up better

Well the covers are aluminum, they are just either cast or die-cast aluminum. My old covers were cast aluminum and I had seen them with AN fittings welded to them. I was just trying to make sure I don't get a set of crap covers.

I'm sure they were die cast. You can look at how porous they are and usually tell. Either way it should be ok.

If they are new covers, clean them up real well with brake cleaner and the put in the oven for about an hour or so at 300 or 400 degrees to bake all the oil and shit out of them prior to welding. Then right before you weld onto them chemically clean/etch the surface and you'll be all good.

And then cook yourself a roast in said oven.
