I have found one company that modifies the stock intake to fit a 4 brl carb but they want 800 bucks.... and they say it will only fit there racing heads that are another 1,600.

don't know why but if there is a carb manifold out there (ford Brand) your best bet might be to measure the carb plate and get an upsizing spacer. seen them in jegs. Even if there is one availible your gonna need a small 4bbl like 400 cfm or less. Running the numbers on a 3.8 say you only need 374 cfm. There 2bbls out there bigger than that. Hell I have a 450 2bbl sitting on the shelf.

I have a holley 500 2 bbl on it now. and make great power but the off idle circuit sucks. the car always dies it fuel economy sucks. I was thinking of getting a 500 4 bbl for it that way it is not suck a big transition.

btw this is not a stock 3.8l this is making about 200 whp na.

whats your problem with the carb. or what's the car doing it's probably something to due with the carb. Because if you go to a 4bbl you'll be sucking say 200 cfm the up to 500. Where as if you tune the carb right you'll 500 cfm at your disposal almost instantly faster than you would a 4bbl.

when does it die at idle or when you mash the gas. If it when you mash the gas you might need to change the accel pump diaphragm or the squirter.

yea that was the only one that I could find. I like it but I dont have 800 bucks to spend on this thing. I would rather do a s-coupe swap for that kind of cash.

any throttle transition below 3000 rpms. and it will bog or die. off idle responce is not there....If I hook up a vac gauge and watch it. the vacume will drop from 17 to 0 and it just dies. if I feather and pump the accelerator it will stay running till the rpms go up.

after the engine build I closed the air jets and turned the idle up to about 1200 rpms in nutruel to keep it running in gear. with it set like that the hessitation isnt as bad but I dont like shifting at 1200rpms.

I origanaly was not going to fix it I was just going to swap in a 302 but I thought I would give it a second chance.

The SSM single port lower for a carb set up will work better with their heads, but it will work with stock single ports from an early motor (as long as the heads aren't off the fuel injected car). There is also a $200 core charge included in that... so your end cost is only $600 for the lower.

still 600 bucks. its a nice hand made part but $600... I might as well buy a s-coupe upper and lower and super charger.

they are fi heads but the injector ports have been plugged.

which carb is it. A holley right. Without looking at it I think you should up the accel pump if it has a 30cc shot go to a 50cc and then up the squirter If it can be changed. Probably has like a 29 or 31 in it. go to a 37 seven. I had similar problems with mine and it wasn't getting enough fuel at take off so it would bog or hesitate. also double check your float level could be too low. another thing happens is the pin for the diaphram sometimes get stuck from being over extended an can also tear a small hole in it. One other thing is you can change the cam for when the accel pump starts to work it's probably pumping to late.

I will try that when I pull the car out of storage.... I have spent a lot of time messing with it and I havent had much for luck. I really think the 2 bbl 500 is in a way to big for the engine. but a 4 bbl 500 should be fine. if that makes sense.
