ok guys i have a deal pending on a set of 291 camel back heads they are the small chamber and they have 1.95 intake and they have been stored inside and are cleaned up. the guy wants 200$ should i buy them or let these heads go the way of the dinosaur.

they would make a good addition to my 305 or the 350 with some home porting and port matching

I would personally spend a few hundred more and get a set of used aluminum heads already cut for 2.02s. Not that it really matters cause anything used is gonna need a valve job.

I had a set of camels that had tons of porting. Was just a sliver of metal between the ports.

on a 355 they pushed my nova to 10.9X.

200 bucks buy you'll be able to sell em for the same even if you don't use them. They are a good set of mild heads. good match for the anemic 305. I say buy not often you get an ok head head right out of the box. For cheap

what really matters is the valve job. So these are clean. Big whoop. That's like 40 bucks. a valve job is 200 plus. camel back heads were hot in the 80s at best. now there are thousands of sets of nice AL heads around. and yes vorteks pwn.

Your budget needs to be 100 percent defined to be able to answer your questino.

nothing except a chain attached to the bow of a boat is a good addition to a 305. those motors are WORTHLESS. unless you plan on putting these on a real SBC save your coins.

Why are they "worthless"? They used them for years and put them in everything. Same oiling system, cooling, everything as a 350 it just has a 3.736'' bore compared to a 4.000'' on a 350.

They may not be must for making power, but they are far from worthless.

thats what i mean. there are much worse motors out there..the 307 comes to mind i mean in terms of spending money and time to put heads on them..why bother? you're not going to make any power with it if he wants to make more power he should just drop a few hundred for a decent 350 and a cam. he'd already be making more than a 305 with all the bolt ons in the world

I think they're worthless too. They don't get any better fuel economy and lack power. It was only in the last few years of the Thirdgen that they made any kind of gains at all (205 hp), and even then the V6 put out more power in the '90's.

They gave the Thirdgens a bad rep.
