I dont know from expeirence but have heard lots of bad about the Optima batteries. I am personally gonna stay away from them just from the general census about them.

i just use Motorcraft, good battery, mine has been dead hundards of times (from little draining items and such) and all it takes is 1 jump and its back up and running, no fuss! its lasted over 3 years that i know about (been in car since before i owned it) and its even been left hooked up 1 winter, and still no problems. i know others use them and have zero complaints. id recommand it to any one!

I don't know much Optima's so I can't say anything there. Napa has a battery called the "Orbital" which is an absorbed glass mat battery and can be mounted in any position except upside down and it's guaranteed not to leak. Anyway, it has great reserve capacity and CCA. The nice thing is not having to worry about it leaking in any way. If you just need a standard battery any good Exide or Motorcraft will suffice. Nick

Well I've got an Optima in the Cobra... I guess it doesn't "wow" me really for the hype and price. My next choice if I was getting a battery, I guess I'd try one of THESE just to try it.

just a little FYI, I talked to the place where I got my dead Optima from, I'm not alone. They sell excide and from what the guy was telling me they sell about 35 regular batts to ever Optima, well when he does the warrenty writeups every month they always have about 1 optima for every 2 of the others, thats bad! they were mostly reds, I dont think there is any real issues with the yellows or blues.

Also if you do go with an optima make sure you tell those fuckers to open every box and get the newest one as they are coverd for 2 years from when they were made, not from when they stamp the dots on the top, I still cant figure out what the hell those are even there for I faced the same question last weekend, I decided to go with a regular one, 3 years free replacment from purchase date and something like 84 month prorated after that, less then $60 bucks.

If I went with an Optima it would be a yellow, but thanks for the input Bill.

Optima is heavier... but much better. Recommended for winter vehicles for sure!

Otherwise Interstate is the best battery ever. Nothing beats um. Nothing.

I have an Optima Blue top and it sat for four months without being started and it still registered 12.65 volts. My old motorcraft battery would have never done that, after sitting for a month or so it would need to be charged a little to start the car but then it was fine.

There are three actually Red Top= Starting battery (normal car battery), Yellow top= Deep Cycle Starting battery (half way between a normal car battery and a marine battery), and the Blue top which is a deep cycle marine battery. The main difference is the yellow and blue tops can handle more Charge/ discharge cycles and the deep cycles I believe have more reserve capacity. I have the Blue top in my car partially because it matches my engine bay so well and they are supposed to last longer which is an issue with the stereo I have. It is supposed to be able to sit for six months and only lose like .5 volt. I know mine sat for four months and stayed at 12.65 volts. If I were you I would get either a yellow top or the blue top they seem to last longer.
