    Alternator wiring?

Alright, I am starting to design the wire harness for my car after I tore out every bit of wire/hose in the car. I do have questions about the 2G alternator harness.

All wires except the green with red chaser end up together in a ring terminal that goes on the positive side of the Starer Relay. I see the Green w/ red chaser is for the gauge, but does it also energize the field or is that done via battery power from the relay post?

Do I need to wire the volts gage to the igntion switch?

Why does the gage wire need to be hot in run?

        Just to activate the gage?

You wire an amp meter the way I told you. A volt meter could be hooked to any hot wire and any ground.

I found out the hard way that the charge indicator is required for the alternator to operate.

Did you run the green wire to a volts gage and then to the ignition switch?

I had the cluster out with a no-charge situation. Reconnecting the cluster solved the problem. I believe its looking for a specific resistance. Those diagrams should have the answer.

Weren't you switching the car over to a new style alternator?

They show the cluster as being optional. It looks like you should just run the green wire to ignition power. The 2g alternator uses that one as the field wire.

I plan to to use the 2 G for now and this chart shows the cluster being optional.

Must not have worked on MG72s car because he broke the field circuit.

Never mind got it working. Runs great, 14.25 volts and the switch kills the car.
