    Engine Build

Well the time has come to think about putting the car away and putting it under the knife. This coming weekend the motor will be coming out and I am going to work on the engine bay for a while, hiding the wires and hopefully getting rid of some of the holes as well. As far as the motor is concerned, it's getting a TFS top end kit along with new exhaust, LTs, mid pipe and new cat back. My question is, since the motor is out, should I buy a rebuild kit for the bottom end or should I keep it as is? I was looking at the Federal Mogul rebuild kit just to freshen up the motor a little since it will be out of the engine bay. Am I better off getting a rebuild kit with new pistons or will new rings, gaskets, oil pump do?

Money is an issue at this moment. I am not looking for big dawg status just something keep myself entertained. If I had the money I would be all over a stroker kit.

Anyways, are you saying I should get the pistons no matter what or see what the block and pistons look like once I tear it down before purchasing those parts.

very true. Just check everything over. If it all looks ok put new bearings and rings in it and put it back in the car.

Don't replace your forged pistons with the hyper shit ones. If you need to bore get forged. You should be good with bearings, hone, & rings. Save your money for the top end "HP"
            Don't ask, it's a midlife crises thing.

Stroke and poke it. You can get kits pretty cheap. Totally worth it.

Did the 5.0 motors come with forged pistons? I didn't know that.

You have forged pistons unless someone was in their before and replaced with Hypers. Hard on Rubber and I just redid my engine, rings, bearing and stuff. Very inexpensive, if you want to save money dont bore (unless needed), just re reing, bearing and hone.

Well that makes me happy to hear that it has forged pistons. I am going to tear the motor down and see how it all looks and go from there. I will re-ring it and put new bearings in for sure, other than that we'll see. Thanks for the help guys.

Shit, I'd just throw it back in.

Takes less time, don't need to buy more tools, less risk of fugging something up. Unless you really think there was a NEED to rebuild the engine (low compression in one of hte cylinders, some sort of nasty noise, etc). Projects go much better when there is less variables to worry about after you've changed something.
